2023 first-round pick Hurston Waldrep<\/a> will make his MLB debut Sunday. Waldrep quickly rose the ranks after his college stint at Florida. The Georgia native from Thomasville High School pitched for Mississippi and Gwinnett in 2024. Waldrep will be the youngest player on the roster, born in 2002. Michael Harris II<\/a>‘s birthday lands in 2001, while newly called-up pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach<\/a> in 2000. Waldrep will become the 15th player born in 2002 to debut, and the sixth to debut in 2024.<\/p>\n

Hurston Waldrep Minor Leagues<\/h2>\n

Double-A vs Triple-A Splits<\/h3>\n

Quickly rising through the minor leagues, the 22-year-old pitched in Double-A and Triple-A this season. In Double-A, Waldrep posted a 3-2 record, 2.92 ERA and 1.399 WHIP. In nine starts, two of which Waldrep pitched a complete game. Not much comes from Triple-A as Waldrep pitched one game in a losing effort. He recorded three earned runs in six innings with one walk and 11 strikeouts. He faced 24 batters and had an even 1.000 WHIP.<\/p>\n

Situational Splits<\/h3>\n

Although Waldrep is a right-handed pitcher, he pitched much better against lefties than right handers. Against LHBs, Waldrep held batters to a .244 average and fanned 28. Against RHBs, hitters slashed a .290 average and he only struck out 20 batters. In day games, Waldrep struggled in his eight innings, serving up a .436 batting average. In night games, Waldrep gave up a .227 opponent’s batting average. Waldrep’s debut will be a 1:35 PM game in Washington.<\/p>\n

Pitching Catalogue<\/h3>\n

In the pitch arsenal for Waldrep competes a fastball that touches the mid-90s with a good slider and splitter; his fastball can whistle by batters and the slider makes others look foolish. However, the splitter is a particularly nasty pitch from Waldrep. Through the ranks, the splitter has torn batters up, being used at a 46% clip in his Triple-A stint. His splitter comes with a 60 chase percentage and 57.1 whiff percentage.<\/p>\n

Waldrep Debut<\/h2>\n

Hurston Waldrep will debut Sunday for the Atlanta Braves<\/a> against the Washington Nationals<\/a>. Waldrep will compete against 23-year-old DJ Herz<\/a> and look to make an instant impact for the Braves.<\/p>\n
