The Baltimore Orioles<\/a> acquired\u00a0reliever Seranthony Dom\u00ednguez<\/a><\/strong> and outfielder Cristian Pache<\/a><\/strong> from the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> on Friday.\u00a0In return, the Orioles dealt former All-Star Austin Hays<\/a><\/strong> to the Phillies as the trade deadline approaches.<\/p>\n

Orioles Add Reliever to Strengthen the Bullpen<\/h4>\n

Seranthony Dom\u00ednguez has spent his whole career with the Phillies, being a vital piece of their bullpen. The 29-year-old provides experience closing games to the team, and can help support an average Orioles bullpen. During his rookie season in 2018, Dom\u00ednguez posted his best stretch as a closer with 16 saves. Since then, he has not been able to replicate that level of success at the back end of the Orioles’ bullpen, as he had seven blown saves in comparison to two saves.<\/p>\n

This season, Seranthony Dom\u00ednguez has appeared in 38 games, and is averaging 10 strikeouts per nine innings. The reliever is signed through this season, and has a team option for the 2025 season. The Orioles are hoping he can get back to form as he is currently on pace to post the highest ERA of his career. The Phillies also dealt Cristian Pache in the Austin Hays trade. Pache, 25, has bounced around in his short time in the league since he debuted in 2020 with the Atlanta Braves<\/a>. This will be his fourth team in five years as he also spent time with the Oakland Athletics<\/a> in 2022. Pache will likely be a fringe player for the Orioles who will bounce back and forth between Baltimore and the minors like he did with the Phillies.<\/p>\n

End of an Era in Baltimore<\/h4>\n

Hays was drafted by the Orioles in 2016 and was their longest-tenured player before the trade. He made appearances for the team from 2017-2020, never appearing in more than 35 games. However, in 2021 he finally cemented himself as a major leaguer, hitting 22 home runs and batting .256. In 2023, Hays appeared in his first All-Star Game, had 67 RBI, and played good defense for the Orioles. His contract will expire at the end of this season. The Major League Baseball Trade Deadline is on July 30th at 6 PM Eastern. The Orioles have shown a lot of interest in many players, and this could be the tip of the iceberg with many more moves to come.<\/p>\n
