The Baltimore Orioles<\/a> finished their day at the trade deadline adding outfield depth with one final deal with the Cincinnati Reds<\/a>. They acquired outfielder Austin Slater<\/a><\/strong> and infielder Liv\u00e1n Soto<\/a><\/strong> for cash considerations or a player to be named later.<\/p>\n

Orioles Finish the Deadline with More Depth<\/h4>\n

With the acquisition of Austin Slater, the team strengthens its rotation in the outfield. Slater will be a reserve outfielder for the Orioles but is a nice option to call on when needed. He is not a player that will be creating headlines. The Orioles will rely on him to fill spots in the regular season when the team decides to rest other players.<\/p>\n

This season, Slater is hitting .185 with 12 RBI in 51 games. Furthermore, his OPS is way below the league average. On the other hand, his value comes in fielding. As a reserve player, he is generally a very good fielder. He has experience at every position in the outfield and can fill in a game or two in any spot.<\/p>\n

Unlike the other trades the Orioles made, Slater is not a player they are hoping can heavily impact the team or return to the star form he once had. If he keeps playing the way he is now the team will be successful as long as he stays healthy.<\/p>\n

The Orioles also acquired Liv\u00e1n Soto from the Reds. Prior to his time with the Reds, Soto was in the Los Angeles Angels<\/a>‘ system being the team’s No. 16 ranked prospect in 2023. He has not quite found his footing yet, playing only 23 games in the majors. The Orioles assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk. The infielder is only 24-years-old and still has time to develop. As a team that is already dealing with injuries among their pitching staff, the Orioles added outfield depth in Slater to hopefully limit injuries in the lineup.<\/p>\n
