The Chicago White Sox<\/a> have fired manager Pedro Grifol<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and have brought in Grady Sizemore<\/strong><\/a> as the interim skipper. The move came on Thursday\u2019s off-day, prior to their game against the Chicago Cubs<\/a> at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday. The team has announced that a search for a new manager is underway. The White Sox will find a full-time replacement after the conclusion of the 2024 season.<\/p>\n

Tough Year for the White Sox<\/h4>\n

The decision to part ways with Pedro Grifol comes after the White Sox’ posted a dismal record of 28\u201389 thus far. Grifol finishes his first career managerial stint with an 89\u2013190 record. \u201cAs we all recognize, our team\u2019s performance this season has been disappointing on many levels,\u201d said White Sox senior vice president\/general manager Chris Getz.<\/a> \u201cDespite the on-field struggles and lack of success, we appreciate the effort and professionalism Pedro and the staff brought to the ballpark every day. These two seasons have been very challenging. Unfortunately, the results were not there, and a change is necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Big Shoes to Fill<\/h4>\n

In 2022, Pedro Grifol was given the task of replacing Miguel Cairo<\/a>. <\/strong>Cairo had replaced Hall of Famer Tony La Russa<\/a>, <\/strong>who was dealing with health issues. Grifol previously had a long track record as the bench coach for the division-rival Kansas City Royals<\/a>. He\u2019d been a part of several managerial searches prior to landing the job with the White Sox. The expectation was that he\u2019d bring a fresh, younger voice to the club.<\/p>\n

He brought a new perspective, but it\u2019s fair to say things didn\u2019t work out at all as planned. The White Sox finished with a 93\u201369 in 2021 and a .500 finish in 2022. Their goal in 2023 was to compete for the AL Central title. Instead, by midseason the team\u2019s results had been so miserable that GM Rick Hahn and executive vice president Ken Williams were both fired. Their next manager will certainly have their work cut out for them.<\/p>\n
