In a stunning development, the Seattle Mariners<\/a> are reportedly dismissing manager Scott Servais<\/strong><\/a>. News of the apparent change in leadership was first reported by Ken Rosenthal<\/a> of\u00a0The Athletic. <\/em>The announcement came during\u00a0the Mariners’ off day on Thursday afternoon. The club has not confirmed the news. Servais’ departure comes at a time where the Mariners still remain in the postseason race but with fleeting chances. It’s a far cry from where the Mariners stood entering play on June 19, with a 10-game lead atop the American League West.<\/p>\n

The Mariners Next Move<\/h4>\n

To fill Scott Servais’ seat in the dugout for the remainder of the 2024 season, the Mariners are bringing in former Mariners catcher Dan Wilson<\/strong><\/a>. That move, however, will not occur until the announcement of Servais’ dismissal becomes official. Wilson has previously served as a special assignment coordinator for the Mariners in spring training. The development of Scott Servais’ departure suggests that anything could be on the table for the Mariners. This also opens the possibility there could be more personnel changes, spanning the rest of the coaching staff and potentially the front office.<\/p>\n

Since holding their 10-game lead in June, the Mariners have gone 20\u201332 for a .385 winning percentage. That is the lowest winning percentage in the majors. The Mariners hover above the Chicago White Sox<\/a>, who are on pace for one of the worst seasons in history. In his ninth season with the Mariners, Servais was the second-longest-tenured manager with the same team, along with Dave Roberts<\/strong><\/a> of the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> and Kevin Cash<\/strong><\/a>, who began with the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> one year earlier. Servais’ tenure in Seattle ends after compiling a 680\u2013642 record. That makes him the second-longest-tenured and second-winningest manager in team history, behind only Lou Piniella<\/strong><\/a> in each category. Heading into Friday, the Mariners own a record of 64\u201364. They start a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants<\/a> on Friday at T-Mobile Park.<\/p>\n
