The Atlanta Braves<\/a> and the New York Mets<\/a> have postponed their series with two games left due to Hurricane Helene. The postponed date will create a doubleheader on Monday, a day before the playoffs begin. As it stands, the Braves are a game back from the Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> for the final Wild Card spot. The Diamondbacks take on the San Francisco Giants<\/a> on Wednesday at Chase Field. The Diamondbacks are 5\u20135 in their last ten games, while the Braves and Mets are 6\u20134.<\/p>\n

Series Before Postponement<\/h4>\n

The crucial NL East series between two major division rivals gave baseball fans one last jolt before the postseason. On Tuesday, the Braves squeezed a 5\u20131 victory off the back of Michael Harris II<\/a><\/strong> and Marcell Ozuna<\/strong><\/a>‘s solo home runs. For Wednesday, the pitching matchup of Mets veteran David Peterson<\/a><\/strong> (9\u20133, 3.08) for the Mets and Braves star Chris Sale<\/a><\/strong> (18\u20133, 2.38)\u00a0 gave two great options for both teams entering the second game of the series. New York Mets star and MVP candidate Francisco Lindor<\/strong><\/a> entered the lineup Wednesday after an extended absence due to injury.\u00a0 On Thursday, Sean Manaea<\/a><\/strong> (12\u20135, 3.29) and Max Fried<\/strong><\/a> (10\u201310, 3.42) took the mound for a potential sweep or rubber match.<\/p>\n

The Future<\/h4>\n

Both teams will prepare for their final series. The Braves play AL Wild Card contender Kansas City Royals<\/a> in a three game set in Atlanta. For the Mets, they take on the NL Central champion Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> on the road before traveling back to Atlanta. When both teams clash on Monday. First pitch will be at 1:10 pm Eastern, with the second game beginning around 40 minutes after the end of Game One. The tickets will be single admission for both games, creating two matches at Truist Park for one lucky home crowd.<\/p>\n

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza<\/strong><\/a> took to the events by stating to stay focused for the NL Central winners,\u00a0“We’ve got to move on to the next series now. We’re facing another really good team in Milwaukee and we’ve got to go out there and not only win a series, but we’ve got to go out there and take care of business. That’s the only thing we can do: control the things we control.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Braves skipper Brian Snitker<\/strong><\/a> wished the Royals safe travels coming into hurricane Helene weather. “I hope the Royals can get here… I would hope we don’t get things screwed up for their series.”<\/p>\n

For both teams, they must focus to recoup and take on the next team up. But for now, the extra day of the regular season could be make or break for two ball clubs looking to make the postseason.<\/p>\n
