After an 0-5 start, the New York Mets<\/a> are going to the postseason! The Mets have clinched a wild card spot to go to their 11th postseason in the team’s history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The first game of Monday\u2019s makeup doubleheader was an instant classic for the Metropolitans. The Mets topped the Atlanta Braves<\/a> 8\u20137 after going scoreless for eight innings. <\/span>A six-run eighth inning would be the saving grace for the 2024 New York Mets’ season. A two-run home run in the top of the ninth from Francisco Lindor<\/strong><\/a> brings the Mets the lead back to the postseason.<\/span><\/p>\n

“0-5 to OMG”<\/h4>\n

\u201cFrom 0-5 to OMG,\u201d\u00a0 Gary Cohen, who does the Mets play-by-play on SNY, says after Game One, and that is the best way to describe the 2024 Mets\u2019 regular season. If you told Mets fans in April that the Mets would back the postseason, they would most likely laugh in your face.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lindor had a slow start to 2024 with a batting average that was flirting with the Mendoza line. He is currently in the MVP conversation and hit the game-winning home run to help bring the Mets to the postseason. The back injury brought up concerns about whether he would be able to help the Mets with the final push to the postseason. Being the leader that he is, he is pushing through with the help of Mets trainers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Carlos Mendoza<\/strong><\/a> is now the first Mets rookie manager to make the postseason. His leadership and the baseball IQ of the Mets’ front office are what helped the Mets get to this point.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mets Clinch Wild Card<\/h4>\n

The Mets split the doubleheader against the Braves. The 2023 National League Champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a>, will not return to the playoffs. The outcome of Monday\u2019s doubleheader determined the faith of the three teams. <\/span><\/p>\n

After the double header-double celebration, The Mets will face the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> and the Braves head to the West Coast to face the San Diego Padres<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span> The Mets going to Milwaukee is what is least preferred being 1\u20136 against the Brewers in the 2024 regular season, including an opening weekend sweep.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Starters for both teams have yet to be announced. However, is safe to assume that Sean Manaea<\/strong><\/a>, Jose Quintana<\/strong><\/a> and Luis Severino<\/strong><\/a> are the probable starters for the Mets. While those are their best starters, the concerns come with Manaea\u2019s last starts against the Brewers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Manaea, who has been going at least six innings since July, went three 2\/3 innings. He allowed five earned runs and a total of six runs on Friday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quintana\u2019s Saturday night bump start resulted in nine strikeouts against the Brewers and allowed two runs. Reed Garrett<\/strong><\/a> gave up four runs in the 6th inning for the final score of 6-0.<\/span><\/p>\n
