It might have been a pyrrhic victory, however, as superstar <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/o\/ohtansh01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shohei Ohtani<\/a><\/strong> left the game with an injury after making the last out of the seventh. Manager <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=roberda07,roberda05,roberda06,roberda03&amp;search=Dave+Roberts&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dave Roberts<\/a><\/strong> said in the postgame press conference that Ohtani had a \u201cleft shoulder subluxation\u201d and would receive an MRI either later Saturday night or on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Dodgers starting pitcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/y\/yamamyo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Yoshinobu Yamamoto<\/a><\/strong> carved up the Yankees lineup like a Halloween pumpkin, holding the Bronx Bombers to one run on one hit in his World Series debut. The rookie walked two and struck out four across 6 1\/3 innings. After a leadoff single by Soto and strikeout by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/judgeaa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Aaron Judge<\/a><\/strong>, three straight Yankees reached base. Two more came on walks by Yamamoto, and the fourth came when Dodgers reliever <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bandaan01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Anthony Banda<\/a><\/strong> hit Yankees first baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rizzoan01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Anthony Rizzo<\/a><\/strong> with a pitch in the seventh. As Hernandez batted after a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bettsmo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mookie Betts<\/a><\/strong> strikeout, Ohtani tried to steal second. Yankees catcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wellsau01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Austin Wells<\/a><\/strong> gunned him down to end the inning, but Ohtani stayed down, holding his left arm. On the slide, Ohtani stuck his left (back) hand down, and his hand jammed into the ground. This caused the shoulder subluxation.<\/p>\n<p>Roberts, after stating when Ohtani would receive tests, said, \u201cThe strength was great, the range of motion good. So we\u2019re encouraged.\u201d However, he did not speculate further, cautioning that the team won\u2019t know Ohtani\u2019s status for sure until the scan results come in.<\/p>\n<h4>The Ninth Inning<\/h4>\n<p>Treinen struggled with command in the ninth, uncorking a wild pitch and hitting a batter. Only adept pitch blocking by catcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=smithwi05,smithwi04,smith-088wil,smith-091wil,smith-090wil&amp;search=Will+Smith&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Will Smith<\/a><\/strong> kept Treinen from throwing more wild pitches. It took him 33 pitches to record two outs before Vesia came in to put out the fire.<\/p>\n<h3>Quick Hits<\/h3>\n<p>This is the 57th time out of 120 World Series that a team has taken a 2\u20130 lead. Said clubs have gone on to win Game Three 24 previous times (42.9%) and win the Series 45 times (80.4%). The last team to take a 2\u20130 Series lead was the 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/nationals\/\">Washington Nationals<\/a>, who defeated the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/astros\/\">Houston Astros<\/a> in seven games by winning every game on the road.<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees have faced 0\u20132 World Series deficits eight other times: 2001, 1996, 1978, 1976, 1963, 1958, 1956, and 1922. They came back to win the World Series four of those times: 1996 over the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/braves\/\">Atlanta Braves<\/a>, 1978 over the Dodgers, 1958 over the then-Milwaukee Braves, and 1956 over the then-Brooklyn Dodgers.<\/p>\n<p>This is the fifth time the Dodgers have taken a 2\u20130 World Series lead. The previous four came in 1988, 1978, 1963, and 1956. They went on to win the 1988 World Series in five games over the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/athletics\/\">Oakland Athletics<\/a> and 1963 World Series over the Yankees in a four-game sweep.<\/p>\n<p>The back-to-back homers by Hernandez and Freeman were the 19th pair in World Series history. The last came in 2022, when <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/schwaky01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kyle Schwarber<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hoskirh01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-10-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Rhys Hoskins<\/a><\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/phillies\/\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> did so in the fifth inning of Game Three.
