ARLINGTON, Texas. (Mar 30) \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a> nailed down their first series victory of the 2025 campaign, edging the Boston Red Sox<\/a>, 3\u20132, on Sunday afternoon. Their highlights included home runs by Wyatt Langford<\/a><\/strong> and Adolis Garcia<\/a><\/strong>. With their opening series in the rearview mirror, the Rangers will embark on their first road trip of the year as they head to the Buckeye State for a three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds<\/a>. The opener of that series will be on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 pm Eastern. It will be a matchup of righties as Kumar Rocker<\/a><\/strong> will start for the Rangers, while Brady Singer<\/a><\/strong> will take the mound for the Reds.<\/p>\n The Red Sox, meanwhile, will fly to Baltimore for a quick two-game set with the Orioles<\/a>. That series will also start on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 pm Eastern at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Lefty Sean Newcomb<\/a><\/strong> will get the ball for the Red Sox, while fellow left-hander Cade Povich<\/a><\/strong> will toe the slab for the Orioles.<\/p>\n The Rangers got into the run column first on Sunday in the bottom of the second. With Richard Fitts<\/a><\/strong> on the mound for the Red Sox, Jake Burger<\/a><\/strong> led off with a single that deflected off Fitts’ glove. His throw to first was not in time and Burger was ruled safe. He sprinted to second on a single to left by Kyle Higashioka<\/a><\/strong>. That brought up Leody Taveras<\/a><\/strong>, who hit a third consecutive single for the Rangers, a line drive to left. Two batters later, Ezequiel Duran<\/a><\/strong> scored Burger with a sacrifice fly to left.<\/p>\n The Red Sox knotted it up in the bottom of the sixth off Rangers reliever Shawn Armstrong<\/a><\/strong>. After Alex Bregman<\/a><\/strong> popped out to Marcus Semien<\/a><\/strong> at second, Triston Casas<\/a><\/strong> drew a walk. He was tagged out at second on a force play grounded into by Kristian Campbell<\/a><\/strong>. Up next was Wilyer Abreu<\/a><\/strong>, who drove in Campbell with a double to left.<\/p>\n Moments later, Abreu scored when Connor Wong<\/a><\/strong> reached on a throwing error by Duran, who was playing third.<\/p>\n The Rangers regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Langford really got the crowd into a frenzy when he led off the frame with a solo home run to right, his first of the season.<\/p>\n Two batters later, Garcia followed suit with a solo bomb of his own, this one went over the fence in left-center for his second tater of the year.<\/p>\n The Rangers gutted out another win on Sunday in front of a crowd of 29,137. They made the most out of their opportunities even though they only scored three runs. Garcia stepped up again with his homer, and Langford joined in the fun as well. Their pitching staff kept the Red Sox in check again as well.<\/p>\n Abreu was a thorn in the Rangers’ side once again on Sunday. His double and run scored in the sixth had everyone in the ballpark on pins and needles. He reached base four times in this one, drawing three walks to go along with his double. Even Rangers manager Bruce Bochy<\/a><\/strong> has said that he cannot explain why Abreu does so well against his team.<\/p>\n Rangers righty Jacob deGrom<\/strong><\/a> turned in five scoreless frames in his first regular season start of 2025, taking a no-decision in the process. His final line was 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 SO, 73 pitches\/49 strikes. He became the first Rangers pitcher with five-or-more scoreless innings and six-or-more strikeouts in a season debut since Glenn Otto<\/a><\/strong> did it on August 27, 2021 against the Houston Astros.<\/p>\n deGrom lowered his career ERA against the Red Sox to 2.40 in five starts. His teams are 1\u20134 in those starts. He limited the Sox to one-or-fewer baserunners in four of his five frames. Reliever Shawn Armstrong came on in relief for deGrom in the sixth and earned his first win of the year. He tossed one inning, surrendering two runs, one earned, on one hit. He walked two and struck out six in that stretch. After giving up a hit and a walk, and striking out one in the ninth, right-hander Luke Jackson<\/a><\/strong> notched his second save of the season.<\/p>\n Red Sox right-hander Richard Fitts shouldered the loss in his first start of 2025 despite notching his first career quality start. He logged career highs in innings (6) and strikeouts (4). Combined with his four starts of five-or-more in 2024, Fitts became the first Sox hurler to log at least five innings in each of his first five career outings since Henry Owens<\/a><\/strong>. He managed to allow only one run in the second inning despite facing a bases-loaded, no-outs jam. After loading the bases with no outs in the second, Fitts retired 12 consecutive batters through the fifth, a streak that was interrupted by Langford\u2019s solo shot.<\/p>\n After the game, Bochy reflected on what stood out to him in this series. “They had a fight in them all weekend”, he said. “You have a game like today, and the outstanding job the pitching staff did. It was exciting to watch. That’s a tough lineup they have over there, and we were able to put up a fight.
