The Texas Rangers<\/a> added to their pitching staff on Tuesday evening when they signed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. The deal is pending a physical, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand<\/a>. The Rangers have not confirmed the deal. It is said to be for two years, and will pay Eovaldi $34 million. The pact includes a third-year vesting player option along with performance bonuses.<\/p>\n

Formidable Starting Rotation<\/h2>\n

The Rangers have been very aggressive with their personnel moves this off-season. They signed Jacob deGrom to a five-year deal earlier this month. Days later, they also signed Andrew Heaney to a two-year contract worth $25 million with another $12 million in incentives built in. They also re-signed lefty Martin Perez to a one-year deal with $19.5 million. As for Nathan Eovaldi, he’ll be joining a starting rotation that includes deGrom, Perez, Jon Gray, and Jake Odorizzi. Rangers fans are hopeful about this rotation going into the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

Nathan Eovaldi’s Resume<\/h2>\n

Nathan Eovaldi had a rough season in 2022. He spent two stints on the injured list, limiting him to 20 starts. Eovaldi finished the season with a record of 6\u20133 with a 3.87 ERA, and a 1.24 WHIP. When he was acquired by the Boston Red Sox<\/a> at the 2018 Trade Deadline, Eovaldi was known as a player who had a hard time reaching his potential due to an extensive history of injuries.<\/p>\n

Nathan Eovaldi was able put things back together, however. In the postseason, Eovaldi, backed by consistent 100 mph fastballs, played a key role in the Red Sox’ World Series title. The \u201cNasty Nate\u201d moniker fit as Eovaldi notched key road victories against the New York Yankees<\/a> in the American League Division Series, and against the Houston Astros<\/a> in the American League Championship Series. In that year’s Fall Classic, Eovaldi was dominant in setup relief while helping the Red Sox to wins in the first two games over the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> in Fenway Park. Had he not pitched six innings in the 18-inning epic that was Game Three, he would have started Game Four.<\/p>\n
