The Athletics<\/a> yielded three unearned runs en route to a 7\u20136 loss to the New York Mets<\/a> Friday night in West Sacramento, California.<\/p>\n Mets first baseman Pete Alonso<\/a><\/strong> led the Mets offense, going 3-for-3 with three RBI and a home run. The homer gave the Mets their seventh run.<\/p>\n The Mets took a 2\u20130 lead against Athletics starter JP Sears<\/a><\/strong> in the top of the second. They came thanks to a leadoff homer by Brandon Nimmo<\/a><\/strong> and back-to-back one-out doubles by Luisangel Acu\u00f1a<\/a><\/strong> and Luis Torrens<\/a><\/strong>. The Athletics countered in the bottom half off Mets starter Griffin Canning<\/a><\/strong>, an RBI single by Miguel Andujar<\/a><\/strong> cutting the lead in half. It became a 3\u20131 game in the top of the fifth when a Pete Alonso double scored Juan Soto<\/a><\/strong> from first. That run was particularly frustrating for the Athletics, as a 2\u20132 slider to Soto from Sears was called ball three despite replay showing it was in the strike zone. He ultimately singled.<\/p>\n The Mets took a 6\u20131 lead in the top of the sixth after three unearned runs, all scoring with two outs. A bases-loaded, one-out sacrifice fly by Pete Alonso scored the first run. The remaining two came on a Starling Marte<\/a><\/strong> double. However, the Athletics got all three back in the bottom of the inning. A one-out single by Jacob Wilson<\/a><\/strong> plated the first run, and a homer by Miguel Andujar brought in the other two runs.<\/p>\n Alonso struck again in the top of the eighth, making the score 7\u20134 with a no-doubt homer to left.<\/p>\n The Athletics had a chance to win in the bottom of the ninth against Mets closer Edwin Diaz<\/a><\/strong>. A pair of walks and a wild pitch put runners on the corners with one out. Shea Langeliers<\/a><\/strong> roped a double to the left-field corner, bringing the A\u2019s to within 7\u20135. With runners now on second and third, JJ Bleday<\/a><\/strong> lofted a sacrifice fly to left, bringing up Wilson with the tying run on second and two outs. However, he grounded to second for the game-ending out.<\/p>\n The Mets held both a five-run lead and three-run lead at some point in this game. Yet the Athletics fought back to within a run and had the tying run in scoring position when the game ended. The Athletics have yet to win a one-run game in 2025 (0\u20134). However, if they keep the games close, they\u2019re bound to start winning some of them.<\/p>\n Langeliers, Bleday, Wilson, and Andujar combined to go 6-for-17 with two doubles, a home run, and six RBI.
