ARLINGTON, Texas (June 30) \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a> dropped their series opener to the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>, 10\u20136, Monday in their fourth consecutive extra-inning contest. One of the many highlights for the Orioles was a two-run homer by Ramon Laureano<\/a><\/strong>. The Rangers will be tasked with tying this series up on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm Central at Globe Life Field. Right-hander Brandon Young<\/strong><\/a> (0\u20132, 7.11 ERA) will get the ball for the Orioles, while righty Jacob deGrom<\/a><\/strong> (8\u20132, 2.08 ERA) will aim to be the stopper for the Rangers.<\/p>\n The Orioles opened the scoring in the top of the third with Patrick Corbin<\/a><\/strong> on the hill. Back-to-back singles by Jackson Holliday<\/a><\/strong> and Laureano and a walk to Gunnar Henderson<\/a><\/strong> loaded the bases. Up next was Gary Sanchez<\/a><\/strong>, who drove in all three runners with a double to left.<\/p>\n The Rangers responded in the bottom of the sixth off Orioles starter Trevor Rogers<\/a><\/strong>. Corey Seager<\/a><\/strong> led off with a walk, bringing up Semien. He deposited a 2\u20130 pitch to left for his eighth homer of the year.<\/p>\n They tied the game at three in the bottom of the seventh off Orioles reliever Seranthony Dominguez<\/a><\/strong>. With two outs in the inning, Dominguez issued a free pass to rookie centerfielder Michael Helman<\/a><\/strong>. Things began to happen quickly soon after. Helman swiped second, marking the first stolen base of his career. He didn’t stop there, however, as a very wild throw by the catcher Sanchez sailed into center, allowing Helman to score from second.<\/p>\n The Mariners took the lead in the top of the 10th off reliever Robert Garcia<\/a><\/strong>. Laureano started the inning at second as the automatic runner. Henderson led off with a two-run dinger to right to make it 5\u20133 Orioles.<\/p>\n At this point, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy<\/a><\/strong> brought in reliever Shawn Armstrong<\/a><\/strong>. He got Sanchez to fly to left and he struck out Ramon Urias<\/a><\/strong> swinging. On deck was Colton Cowser<\/a><\/strong>, who homered to right-center, making it 6\u20133 Mariners.<\/p>\n The Rangers tied it in the bottom of the 10th against Orioles reliever Keegan Akin<\/a><\/strong> with Sam Haggerty<\/a><\/strong> acting as the ghost runner. Semien hit an infield single that eluded Ryan O’Hearn<\/a><\/strong> at first. That brought up Adolis Garcia<\/a><\/strong>, who smashed a three-run home run to left-center to tie it once again, 6\u20136.<\/p>\n Hoby Milner<\/a><\/strong> came in to pitch the top of the 11th for the Rangers with O’Hearn at second. With one out, Luis Vazquez<\/a><\/strong> stepped in and hit one up the middle. Haggerty scooped up the ball in center and threw to second to try and get him. Vazquez was ruled out, but the Orioles challenged and got the call overturned. O’Hearn scored on the play, making it 7\u20136 Orioles.<\/p>\n Up next was Holliday, who drew a walk. He scored on a double to left by Laureano. That brought up Henderson. He plated both runners with a double to right, making it 10\u20136 Orioles.<\/p>\n The Orioles were able to take advantage of an extremely overworked Rangers bullpen. This is a team that was going into their fourth straight extra-inning game. Arms and eyelids were both very heavy at this point, and the Orioles pounced with the hits, runs scored, and the homer by Laureano.<\/p>\n The visiting-nine also had their share of challenges in this one. The main one being the three-run blast by Garcia in the 10th inning. They were also hurt by the homer by Semien.<\/p>\n Rangers lefty Patrick Corbin threw a season-high 110 pitches in a no-decision, retiring 12 of the last 13 hitters he faced to record his fourth quality start of the season. His final line was 6 IP, 8 H, 3 R-ER, 1 BB, 6 SO, 110 pitches\/67 strikes. The 110 pitches were his most since June 28, 2022 against the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> as a member of the Washington Nationals<\/a> (113). It’s also the most by a Ranger since Nathan Eovaldi<\/a><\/strong> tossed 113 pitches on May 11, 2023 against the Oakland Athletics.<\/p>\n After giving up four runs, three earned, on three hits and two walks in the top of the 11th, a very tired Milner took the loss. His record now sits at 1\u20132 with an ERA of 2.53.<\/p>\n Orioles starter Trevor Rogers made his fourth start of the season with the O\u2019s Tuesday and did not receive a decision in his second consecutive start against the Rangers. His line was 5 1\/3 IP, 3 H, 2 R-ER, 3 BB, 5 SO, 1 HR, 91 pitches\/52 strikes. He had tossed 13 1\/3 consecutive scoreless innings against the Rangers prior to surrendering the two-run homer to Semien in the sixth. Rogers snapped a 14 scoreless inning streak since the third inning on June 15 against the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a>.<\/p>\n After allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits in the 10th, Akin earned the win, improving his record to 3\u20130 with an ERA of 3.32. He was also saddled with a blown save.<\/p>\n After the game, Bochy elaborated on his exhausted bullpen. \u201cIt caught up with them, there\u2019s no getting around it,\u201d he said. \u201cThey have been doing such a great job. Believe me, I felt for them to be out there, and we just couldn’t punch a run in the eighth and ninth. The guys fought back. I feel for these guys. They’re getting after it, and they’re continuing to fight. It’s been a tough four days for extra-inning games.\u201d<\/p>\n Patrick Corbin also gave his thoughts on the evening. \u201cI don’t think we had many [extra-inning games] coming into this last week,\u201d said Corbin. \u201cIt’s definitely tough with the pitching when these games keep going. All of these guys have stepped up, and no one’s complaining, and they’re taking the ball.
