ARLINGTON, Texas (Jul 1) \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a> broke their string of four consecutive extra-inning games by beating the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>, 10\u20132, Tuesday. A big home run by Alejandro Osuna<\/a><\/strong> set the tone and helped the Rangers shut the door on the Orioles. They\u2019ll aim for the series win on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm Central at Globe Life Field. Right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano<\/a><\/strong> (6\u20134, 4.06 ERA) will toe the slab for the Orioles, while righty Nathan Eovaldi<\/a><\/strong> (4\u20133, 1.87 ERA) will get the ball for the Rangers.<\/p>\n Both teams traded zeroes for the first two and a half stanzas. The Rangers grabbed a 3\u20130 lead in the bottom of the third with Brandon Young<\/a><\/strong> on the mound. Sam Haggerty<\/a><\/strong> and Josh Smith<\/a><\/strong> opened the inning with back-to-back singles. After Corey Seager<\/a><\/strong> was called out on strikes, Marcus Semien<\/a><\/strong> drew a walk to load the bases.<\/p>\n Up next was Adolis Garcia<\/a><\/strong>, who scored Haggerty and Smith with a sharp single up the middle. Two batters later, Semien scored on a single to left by Jonah Heim<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Orioles answered back in the top of the fourth with Jacob deGrom<\/a><\/strong> on the mound for the Rangers. Gunnar Henderson<\/a><\/strong> ripped a one-out single to center. He stole his 10th base of the year after Ryan O’Hearn<\/a><\/strong> lined to left.<\/p>\n On deck was Gary Sanchez<\/a><\/strong>, who put two runs on the board with a homer to left, his fifth of the season.<\/p>\n The Rangers padded their lead in the bottom of the fifth off Orioles reliever Matt Bowman<\/a><\/strong>. Garcia reached on a double to center, his 18th of the year. Up next was Osuna, who blasted his first major league home run to right, making it 5\u20132 Rangers.<\/p>\n The Rangers added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. After Smith led off with a line-out to first, Seager doubled to right. Semien nudged him over to third with a single to left before swiping second for his seventh stolen base of the campaign.<\/p>\n That brought up Garcia, who drove in Seager and Semien with a single to left.<\/p>\n In the bottom of the eighth, the Rangers tacked on three more off reliever Gregory Soto<\/a><\/strong>. He plunked Seager to start the inning, then threw a wild pitch. After walking Semien, Soto threw another wild pitch, advancing both runners.<\/p>\n After Garcia lined to third, Michael Helman<\/a><\/strong> entered the game as a pinch-hitter for Osuna. He promptly drew a free pass. With two outs, Justin Foscue<\/a><\/strong> came in to pinch-hit for rookie outfielder Billy McKinney<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n A third wild pitch from Soto scored Seager and moved Semien to third and Helman to second. Moments later, Foscue doubled to center to plate Semien and Helman.<\/p>\n The Rangers got some much-needed run support for deGrom on Tuesday. They seemed determined not to play five consecutive extra-inning games, which would have broken their franchise record set in 2002 when they played four consecutive extra-inning contests against the Seattle Mariners<\/a> from September 16-19.<\/p>\n The only roadblock the Rangers dealt with was the two-run blast by Sanchez in the fourth. Other than that, they did a nice job keeping them at bay.<\/p>\n Rangers righty Jacob deGrom notched his ninth win and 10th quality start in his 17th outing of 2025. His line on the evening was 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R-ER, 1 BB, 6 SO, 1 HR, 92 pitches\/59 strikes. He improves to 9\u20132 on the year and has the third-best winning percentage in the AL.<\/p>\n He has registered 14 straight starts of five innings pitched and two or fewer runs since April 18, extending the longest run in franchise history and marking the longest such stretch in the AL since Felix Hern\u00e1ndez had a 17-game streak for the Mariners in 2014.<\/p>\n Orioles starter Brandon Young made his fourth career start and his second on the road. He was saddled with his third loss and is now 0\u20133 with an ERA of 7.02. The Orioles moved to 1\u20133 in his four career outings.<\/p>\n He navigated the first and second innings without allowing a run, but ran into trouble in the 3rd when he yielded the pair of run-scoring singles to Garc\u00eda and Heim. Young exited the game after four complete with a 3\u20132 deficit.<\/p>\n After the game, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy<\/a><\/strong> couldn’t help but gush over deGrom\u2019s performance. \u201cOf course, Jacob was Jacob,\u201d he said. \u201cJust another terrific job. \u2026 This guy is special. Talk about a feeling of confidence with the team. I\u2019ll keep saying it, I love watching him. You can feel it with the crowd. You can.
