ARLINGTON, Texas (Aug 10) \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a> lost to the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>, 4\u20132, in front of a crowd of 32,444. That puts the Rangers on the wrong end of a three-game sweep. The Phillies, meanwhile, had a big contribution in the form of a game-tying home run by Edmundo Sosa<\/a><\/strong>. With this series behind them, the Rangers close out this nine-game homestand with three against the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> beginning Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm Central at Globe Life Field. Right-hander Ryne Nelson<\/a><\/strong> (6\u20133, 3.20 ERA) will get the ball for the Diamondbacks, while righty Nathan Eovaldi<\/a><\/strong> (10\u20133, 1.38 ERA) will take the mound for the Rangers.<\/p>\n As for the Phillies, they\u2019ll continue on with the second leg of their current 10\u2013game road trip with a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. The opener for that matchup will also be Monday. It will get underway at 6:10 pm Eastern at Great American Ball Park. Taijuan Walker<\/a><\/strong> (4\u20135, 3.53 ERA) will toe the slab for the Phillies, and Andrew Abbott<\/a><\/strong> (8\u20132, 2.34 ERA) will make the start for the Reds.<\/p>\n The Rangers got into the run column in the bottom of the first inning against Phillies starter Zack Wheeler<\/a><\/strong>. Corey Seager<\/a><\/strong> reached on a one-out walk.<\/p>\n After Marcus Semien<\/a><\/strong> grounded into a 5\u20134 force play, Joc Pederson<\/a><\/strong> stepped in and belted a two-run home run to right.<\/p>\n The Phillies cut the lead to one run in the top of the fourth off lefty Patrick Corbin<\/a><\/strong>. He opened the frame by walking Trea Turner<\/a><\/strong>. After Kyle Schwarber<\/a><\/strong> was called out on strikes, Bryce Harper<\/a> <\/strong>drove in Turner by lining a double to right.<\/p>\n They tied the game, 2\u20132, in the top of the fifth. A solo blast to left-center by Sosa made that a reality.<\/p>\n Bryson Stott<\/a><\/strong> followed with a single up the middle and promptly stole second for his 18th stolen bag of the season.<\/p>\n On deck was Weston Wilson<\/a><\/strong>, who plated Stott with a single to center.<\/p>\n The Phillies scored an insurance run off reliever Phil Maton<\/a><\/strong> in the top of the ninth. He opened the frame by hitting Harrison Bader<\/a><\/strong> with a pitch. Up next was Sosa, who moved Bader over to second with a sacrifice bunt back to Maton.<\/p>\n Stott followed with a single to left and his second stolen base of the afternoon. On deck was Brandon Marsh<\/a><\/strong>, who drove in Bader with a sacrifice fly to left.<\/p>\n The main thing the Phillies did right was they held the Rangers to an 0-for-1 clip with runners in scoring position. When you\u2019re doing that, you\u2019re going to be hard to beat. They also had Sosa\u2019s homer and RBI singles by Scott and Wilson.<\/p>\n The Phillies were good on Sunday, but they weren\u2019t perfect as they fell victim to the two-run home run by Pederson.<\/p>\n Rangers lefty Patrick Corbin drew his first loss since June 23 against the Baltimore Orioles. His line on Sunday was 3 R-ER, 4 H, 4 1\/3 IP, 3 BB, 1 SO, 1 HR, 78 pitches\/52 strikes. Corbin failed to complete five innings for the second straight start. This comes after a 16-start streak with five or more innings from May 3 to June 29. His record now sits at 6\u20138 with an ERA of 4.00.<\/p>\n Phillies starter Zack Wheeler earned the victory Sunday. His line was 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R-ER, 3 BB, 7 SO, 1 HR, 83 pitches\/51 strikes. He snapped a four-start winless span. Wheeler recorded his 10th win of the season, marking five consecutive 10+ win seasons and eight times in his career to reach double digits. He improves to 10\u20135 on the year with a 2.68 ERA.<\/p>\n He\u2019s the 10th Phillie in franchise history to reach 10 or more wins in five consecutive seasons, first since Cole Hamels<\/a><\/strong> (2007-12). This was his 12th career win when posting the minimum five frames to qualify, and the first such win since July 9, 2024 against the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>.<\/p>\n After surrendering a hit and striking out one in the ninth, reliever Jhoan Duran<\/strong><\/a> earned his 20th save of 2025.<\/p>\n After the game, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy<\/strong><\/a> was asked if he was concerned over the Rangers\u2019 recent lack of offense. \u201cIt was the story all series,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s the thing about this game, and it will drive you crazy thinking about it.
