<\/ins>The New York Mets<\/a> score 13 unanswered runs to begin their three-game homestead on Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>\u00a0after going down 3-0 by the start of the fourth inning.<\/p>\n

Catcher Luis Torrens<\/a> shone under the bright lights of Citi Field in Queens, NY, by ending the 13-3 triumph with three hits, two runs, and five RBI. The 29-year-old went 3-for-5 from the plate, including a three-run home run<\/a> during the seventh inning to help the Mets score 10 of their 13 total runs.<\/p>\n

His third home run of the season traveled 381 feet to right-center field.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the game plan for me is to get the ball deeper, and it\u2019s been a strong suit of my game,\u201d Torrens told SNY<\/a> during a postgame interview. \u201cWhen I can hit it to the opposite field, that\u2019s when I\u2019ve had the most success.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

During the sixth inning he hit an RBI double to deep right-center field, which scored outfielder Tyrone Taylor<\/a>. Torrens was scored by a shallow single from Mets designated hitter Starling Marte<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Torren’s third hit of the night was an eighth-inning RBI single, which helped the Mets score 13 unanswered runs.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, he\u2019s a great pitcher who\u2019s had one of those incredible seasons,\u201d Torrens said, having to make adjustments while facing Cristopher Sanchez<\/a>, the Phillies’ starting pitcher. \u201cHe\u2019s one of those pitchers where the entire team needs to make adjustments on the fly, and today was just one of those days where he had to.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sanchez started the game by shutting down the Mets hitters for the first three innings. He struck out Pete Alonso<\/a> and Jeff McNeil<\/a> during this stretch, while not allowing a single hit to slip past him.<\/p>\n

But Sanchez cracked under the pressure during the fourth inning, where he surrendered five hits and three runs, before the Mets were able to score 10 more runs against Philadelphia to reach 13.<\/p>\n

Mets Score 13 Runs Against Philadelphia in Four Innings<\/h2>\n

Alonso, the Mets’ first baseman, and outfielder Juan Soto<\/a> reached base during the fourth inning with singles. Soto was caught up in a double play with Marte, but Mark Vientos<\/a> hit an RBI double to bring Alonso home.<\/p>\n

Vientos was then scored by an RBI single from Brandon Nimmo<\/a>. McNeil capped off the inning with an RBI single.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels pretty good,\u201d Vientos told SNY after ending the game with two hits and two RBI. \u201cContributing with the bat feels good.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The third baseman has been in somewhat of a slump this season, but has started to build up some confidence and momentum at the plate. Vientos was hit by a pitch during the seventh inning and was subsequently replaced by pinch-hitter Brett Baty<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nimmo walked, then Baty scored on a sacrifice fly from McNeil. During the eighth inning, Taylor hit an RBI single to score Marte.<\/p>\n

McNeil then hit an RBI single to score Baty.<\/p>\n

A Quiet Night From the Mets Bullpen<\/h2>\n

The Mets brought in seven pitchers from their bullpen to take the mound. All-Star Kodai Senga<\/a> started and played four innings.<\/p>\n

He struck out four, but surrendered six hits, three runs, and three walks. Relief pitchers Jose Castillo<\/a>, Tyler Rogers<\/a>, Brooks Raley<\/a>, Ryan Helsley<\/a>, and Ryne Stanek<\/a> each pitched an inning.<\/p>\n

During the ninth inning, Raley and Helsley recorded a strikeout, while Stanek walked Harrison Bader<\/a>, the Phillies center fielder.<\/p>\n

Senga gave up a triple to shortstop Trea Turner<\/a> and a groundout to designated hitter Kyle Schwarber<\/a> during the first inning, which scored Turner. He walked outfielder Brandon Marsh<\/a> and surrendered a single to Max Kepler<\/a> during the second inning.<\/p>\n

Senga gave up an RBI single to Alec Bohm<\/a> during the third inning. Then Marsh doubled to make the score 3-0 in the Phillies’ favor. The Mets were then able to score 13 unanswered runs.<\/p>\n

The Mets and Phillies return to Citi Field on Tuesday to play the second game of their series at 7:10 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
