A bases-loaded walk by Darell Hernaiz<\/a><\/strong> in the bottom of the 10th gave the Athletics<\/a> a 7\u20136 walk-off victory over the visiting Detroit Tigers<\/a> Tuesday night at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, California.<\/p>\n The Athletics opened the scoring with a three-run first capped by a two-out Jacob Wilson<\/a><\/strong> three-run homer to left. Riley Greene<\/a><\/strong> countered in the top of the third with a two-out, two-strike, 471-foot grand slam over the batter\u2019s eye in dead center, giving the Tigers a 4\u20133 lead. Tyler Soderstrom<\/a><\/strong> tied it up in the bottom of the third on a single to left, and an RBI fielder\u2019s choice 6\u20134 force play from Wilson put the Athletics back in the lead. But a solo homer to right-center by Colt Keith<\/a><\/strong> with one out in the top of the fifth knotted the score back up, this time 5\u20135.<\/p>\n The Tigers regained the lead in the top of the 10th when a two-out, full-count single to right by Zach McKinstry<\/a><\/strong> scored automatic runner Kerry Carpenter<\/a><\/strong>. But the Athletics tied the game when Soderstrom led off the bottom of the inning with a single to center. Automatic runner Brent Rooker<\/a><\/strong> scored, and on the throw home, Soderstrom took second. After a walk by Wilson, a sacrifice bunt \u2014 on two strikes, no less \u2014 by Colby Thomas<\/a><\/strong>, and a walk by Lawrence Butler<\/a><\/strong>, Hernaiz drew another walk, forcing in Soderstrom as the winning run.<\/p>\n The Athletics held 3\u20130 and 5\u20134 leads, only to lose both, then trailed 6\u20135 heading into the bottom of the 10th but still pulled off the win.<\/p>\n Athletics relievers stranded Tigers runners in scoring position in three straight scoreless innings \u2014 the sixth, seventh, and eighth \u2014 to preserve a tie game.<\/p>\n Bido did fine in the first two innings, but the third inning was a disaster. He walked two and gave up two hits, including the Greene grand slam. It took him 36 pitches to get through seven hitters, ending his day early.<\/p>\n By not running out a shallow infield popup near the third-base line, Lawrence Butler gift-wrapped a double play for the Tigers. This bailed the Tigers out of two defensive misplays that could have led to a go-ahead run.<\/p>\n Elvis Alvarado<\/a><\/strong> allowed two Tigers to reach with two outs in the 10th as he completely lost command. He walked Wenceel Perez<\/a><\/strong> before allowing a 3\u20132 go-ahead single to right by Zach McKinstry. He had notched two strikes on each batter. Also of note: he threw a wild pitch earlier in the inning.<\/p>\n Eduarniel Nu\u00f1ez<\/a><\/strong> earned the win as Will Vest<\/a><\/strong> took the loss, both in relief.<\/p>\n The Athletics (62\u201372) will go for the three-game sweep over the AL-best Tigers (78\u201356) Wednesday night. Rookie right-hander Luis Morales<\/a><\/strong> (1\u20130, 1.72 ERA) will start for the Athletics against fellow righty Casey Mize<\/a><\/strong> (12\u20134, 3.68 ERA) of the Tigers.
