Late-game heroics help the Boston Red Sox<\/a> sweep the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>, winning 3-2 on Thursday in Camden Yards.<\/p>\n Trevor Story<\/a> and Rob Refsnyder<\/a> both hit solo home runs in the first half of the contest to help secure the Red Sox sweep. Romy Gonzalez<\/a> gave the Sox the lead with an RBI single in the 8th. Garrett Crochet<\/a> went six innings while allowing two runs and striking out seven. This puts Boston 3 1\/2 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> for first in the AL East, while first in the AL Wild Card standings by a game.<\/p>\n Trevor Story started the game with a two-out solo home run off of starting pitcher Cade Povich<\/a>. Alex Jackson<\/a> would respond two innings later with a solo shot of his own to tie the game. Rob Refsnyder, returning from a stint on the IL, joined the fun, hitting a dinger of his own to retake the lead. Despite numerous scoring chances, it took the O\u2019s until the 5th to take charge. A Jeremiah Jackson<\/a> double would retie the game. In the 8th inning, with two outs, Romy Gonzalez clutched up a single past third baseman Emmanuel Rivera<\/a>\u2019s reach, scoring Roman Anthony<\/a>. Steven Matz<\/a> entered in the 9th to secure his second save of the year.<\/p>\n For the third straight game, the Red Sox scored a go-ahead run in the 8th or 9th\u00a0inning.<\/p>\n The pitching and defense got key outs when it mattered. Story can be credited with nearly single-handedly saving Sox pitching.<\/p>\n Matz, Jordan Hicks<\/a>, and Garrett Whitlock<\/a> allowed a combined three hits through the last three innings.<\/p>\n Crochet wasn\u2019t performing like the Cy Young<\/a> caliber pitcher he showed against the New York Yankees<\/a> on Saturday. He had to escape from several jams that could\u2019ve gotten out of hand.<\/p>\n Boston went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. For the series, they were 3-for-24 against a team that ranks 26th in staff ERA. Hicks earned his second win of the season, and Rico Garcia<\/a> earned the loss, giving up the go-ahead run in the 8th.<\/p>\n The Red Sox look to keep their four-game win streak alive, taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> on Friday at Fenway Park. They will put the ball in the hands of the recently promoted Payton Tolle<\/a>. Tolle, the Sox’s 2024 second-round pick, has moved up the minor leagues quickly in 2025. Starting the year in High-A Greenville, Tolle has a 3.04 ERA and a 0.993 WHIP in the minors this season. He has quite the task in front of him as he matches up against Paul Skenes<\/a>.
