The Boston Red Sox<\/a> take the final game of the series 7-4 against the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Red Sox – Diamondbacks Game Summary<\/h3>\n

After 1-2-3 innings from Boston and Arizona to start, both teams got baserunners in the 2nd inning. While the Red Sox couldn\u2019t capitalize, the Diamondbacks did. Blaze Alexander<\/a> hit an RBI single to give Arizona the early lead.<\/p>\n

There were 1-2-3 innings from both sides once again in the third inning. The fourth saw offense from both sides. An RBI single from Trevor Story<\/a> tied the game at 1-1. The bottom half saw Corbin Carroll<\/a> being a menace on the basepaths.<\/p>\n

With Carroll on second, he stole third on catcher Connor Wong<\/a>. At the end, he scored on a wild pitch from starter Brayan Bello<\/a> to take back the lead for the Diamondbacks. All of this unfolded with two outs.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox had two more 1-2-3 innings in the 5th and 6th, with the Diamondbacks following suit in the 5th. The 6th saw a mini two-out rally, with Gabriel Moreno<\/a> hitting an RBI double. Carroll would score, giving Arizona a 3-1 lead.<\/p>\n

Red Sox Rally<\/h3>\n

The 7th saw the Red Sox finally get the offensive rally they were looking for. David Hamilton<\/a> hit an RBI single to bring the game to 3-2. Two batters later, Wong came to bat and hit a ground ball to Jordan Lawlar<\/a> at 3rd base. Fortunately for Boston, Lawlar\u2019s throw was off the mark, scoring the tying and go-ahead runs. Lawlar made up for his mistake, however, hitting an RBI single in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at 4-4.<\/p>\n

The 8th inning saw a similar tune to past innings, with 1-2-3 innings from both sides. The 9th commenced, as Boston got two runners on with one out. Nick Sogard<\/a>, pinch-hitting for Wong, hit a two-run double to give the Red Sox a 6-4 lead. In addition, the pinch-hitting Carlos Narvaez<\/a> drove Sogard in with an RBI single of his own.<\/p>\n

Aroldis Chapman<\/a> came on to get the save in the 9th, and had a disappointing appearance. However, that only meant allowing his first baserunner since August 19th on a dropped third strike. Chapman managed four strikeouts in the inning, as Boston takes the final game of the series for Boston’s 79th win of the year.<\/p>\n

What Went Right for the Sox<\/h2>\n

Improved With Runners On<\/h3>\n

The Sox went 5-for-14 with runners in scoring position, miles better from the 1-for-3 in their last contest. The Red Sox did better at getting runners on base and, more importantly, driving them in.<\/p>\n

Strong Performance from Bello<\/h3>\n

After Payton Tolle<\/a> and Lucas Giolito<\/a> had uninspiring performances starting games this series, Bello was great this game. His total line: six innings, four hits, three earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts. Although his line might not say it, Bello was a lot better than Giolito at limiting baserunners in innings.<\/p>\n

What Went Wrong for the Sox<\/h2>\n

Too Many 1-2-3 Innings<\/h3>\n

The Red Sox offense had five 1-2-3 innings during the contest. Even worse, Boston had only one baserunner in innings where they didn\u2019t score a run.<\/p>\n

Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n

The Red Sox continue their field trip out west, taking on the Athletics<\/a> in a three-game series starting Monday. Garrett Crochet<\/a> (14-5, 2.67 ERA, 1.077 WHIP, 11.0 K\/9, 18\/28 QS) will take the bump to start the series. He will look to rebound from his last start, where he gave up seven earned runs against the Cleveland Guardians<\/a>. The Athletics counter with Luis Morales<\/a> (3-0), who made his majors debut five weeks ago, but owns a 1.59 ERA, 0.988 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts in 28 1\/3 innings across six games.<\/p>\n
