The New York Mets<\/a> shut down Tylor Megill<\/a> temporarily and, in a subsequent move, placed catcher Luis Torrens<\/a> on the 10-day injured list.<\/p>\n

With Torrens out of action, the Mets recalled Hayden Senger<\/a> from the Triple-A Syracuse Mets.<\/p>\n

Mets Shut Down Megill After He Experienced Tightness<\/h2>\n

While answering questions from reporters before Monday\u2019s game against the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> at Citizens Bank Park, Carlos Mendoza<\/a> claimed Megill experienced tightness when throwing secondary pitches.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s back in New York getting imaging, and he\u2019s shut down from throwing,\u201d the Mets manager said. \u201cWe\u2019re waiting to see what we\u2019re dealing with.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Megill, the fourth-year starting pitcher, hasn\u2019t been seen on the diamond since June 14, when the Mets lost to the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> 8-4. According to SNY<\/a>, he has been sidelined with a right elbow sprain and has been rehabilitating between Double-A and Triple-A for the last month.<\/p>\n

With 19 games remaining in the regular season, Mendoza said the team is \u201crunning out of time\u201d on Megill’s return.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo again I don\u2019t want to speculate here, but the fact that he\u2019s getting another MRI and where we\u2019re at, like I said, it feels like we\u2019re running out of time,\u201d he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In 68 innings, Megill is 5-5 with his last win being a 13-5 triumph over the Colorado Rockies<\/a>. The 30-year-old right-handed pitcher has a 3.95 ERA and 89 strikeouts. However, he surrendered 60 hits, 37 runs, and six home runs. Since the Mets shut down Megill, they turned to rookies Nolan McLean<\/a>, Jonah Tong<\/a>, and Brandon Sproat<\/a> to rejuvenate their bullpen.<\/p>\n

Torrens Doesn\u2019t Think He\u2019ll Be Out For Long<\/h2>\n

Torrens, the Mets catcher, spoke to reporters after being placed on the 10-day injured list<\/a> with a right forearm contusion. He claimed the injury occurred during Saturday\u2019s game against the Cincinnati Reds<\/a> when he went to block a ball.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a matter of pain tolerance, and right now there\u2019s a lot of pain,\u201d he added. \u201cAt the same time, this has been the season I feel like I\u2019ve played the most. I\u2019ve been more exposed to it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Torrens, who is in the midst of his eighth season in the majors, has appeared 87 times. In 244 plate appearances, he has 55 hits, 18 runs, five home runs, and 29 RBI. Torrens doesn\u2019t expect to be out of action for too long and expects to be out for no more than \u201ca few days.\u201d In the meantime, Senger will rejoin the starting lineup.<\/p>\n

Senger, 28, has played in 30 games. As a rookie, he collected 12 hits, seven runs, and four RBI. His strongest performance came against the Atlanta Braves<\/a> in August, when he recorded two hits and three RBI.<\/p>\n

Mets Have a Four-Game Stretch Against Philadelphia<\/h2>\n

New York will face off against Philadelphia from Monday to Thursday. The Mets swept the Phillies last time they played a three-game series.<\/p>\n

But this time, things can change, as New York has lost five of its last nine games. Philadelphia has won four of its last six and has a seven-game lead over New York for the top spot<\/a> in the NL East.<\/p>\n

With Megill shutdown and Torrens out of action, the Mets will need a strong performance from McLean in Monday\u2019s game against Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
