Red Sox Vs. Athletics Game Summary<\/h3>\n

Trevor Story<\/a> got the scoring going in the first inning with a solo home run, his 24th of the season. After a 1-2-3 inning from Garrett Crochet<\/a>, Boston got a rally going. Nick Sogard<\/a> and Jarren Duran<\/a> both collected RBI singles to put the Athletics down 3-0 through two innings. A pair of 1-2-3 innings unfolded before another pair of runs came across in the 5th\u00a0inning. After a Carlos Narvaez<\/a> solo home run and an Alex Bregman<\/a> RBI single, Boston possessed a 5-0 lead. After another pair of 1-2-3 innings, another pair of runs scored for Boston. Romy Gonzalez<\/a> and Masataka Yoshida<\/a> both contributed RBI singles to bring the game to its final score.<\/p>\n

What Went Right for the Red Sox<\/h2>\n

Crochet Back to Form<\/h3>\n

Crochet responded in a big way after his blow-up start against the Cleveland Guardians<\/a>. After giving up seven against Cleveland, Crochet got back to form. His final line: seven innings, three hits, zero walks and 10 strikeouts. A start like this was sorely needed after utilizing Garrett Whitlock<\/a> and Aroldis Chapman<\/a> in the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks.<\/p>\n

Whole Lineup Shines<\/h3>\n

This effort was far from a one-man show. All seven Red Sox runs were driven in by different members of the lineup. Ceddanne Rafaela<\/a> and Nathaniel Lowe<\/a> were the only ones not to record an RBI in this contest. Lowe ended up being the only one not to get on base.<\/p>\n

Saved Best Relievers<\/h3>\n

After the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a>, Boston needed contributions from guys deeper in the bullpen. Luckily, recent call-ups Zack Kelly<\/a> and Chris Murphy<\/a> did great, with neither allowing a baserunner. They didn\u2019t have to use arms like Justin Wilson<\/a> or Brennan Bernardino<\/a>, either.<\/p>\n

Athletics’ Best Players Non-Existent<\/h3>\n

The heart of the Athletics lineup struggled immensely. Shea Langeliers<\/a>, Brent Rooker<\/a>, Nick Kurtz<\/a> and Jacob Wilson<\/a> combined to go 1-for-15 with four strikeouts.<\/p>\n

What Went Wrong for the Red Sox<\/h2>\n

1-2-3 Innings\u2026 Again<\/h3>\n

Admittedly nitpicking, Boston still had four 1-2-3 innings. While it\u2019s nice to score runs in bunches, you\u2019d like to see baserunners in more innings, even when they don\u2019t score.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead<\/h3>\n

Boston has two more games against the A\u2019s before heading back to Boston. The Red Sox currently sit one game behind the New York Yankees for the first AL Wildcard spot. Dustin May<\/a> will start the second game of the series. The Athletics are projected to start Jeffrey Springs<\/a>.<\/p>\n
