Pete Alonso<\/a><\/strong> hit a three-run walk-off home run to help the New York Mets<\/a> defeat the Texas Rangers<\/a> 5\u20132 and snap an eight-game losing streak.<\/p>\n During the 10th inning of Sunday\u2019s game at Citi Field, Alonso hit his 34th home run of the season to right and scored Juan Soto<\/strong><\/a> and Francisco Lindor<\/strong><\/a>. Soto was intentionally walked, and Lindor was at second base due to the extra-inning rule.<\/p>\n \u201cThat one felt amazing,\u201d Alonso told SNY<\/a> during a postgame interview. \u201cI felt like I was surfing on top of a dragon there. I wanted to get my pitch, and it showed up, and I was ready for it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Rookie pitcher Nolan McLean<\/strong><\/a> started for the Mets. He recorded seven strikeouts in six innings and surrendered five hits to end with a 1.19 ERA.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s awesome, gets us back in the win column,\u201d McLean said<\/a> during a postgame interview when asked about Alonso\u2019s home run.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n During the fourth inning, Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez<\/strong><\/a> hit a double to right field. A groundout from Lindor moved him to third, before Soto scored him with a groundout to Rowdy Tellez<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Alonso then lined out to Adolis Garcia<\/strong><\/a> in right to end the fourth inning. Outfielder Brandon Nimmo<\/strong><\/a> hit a solo home run to center field in the fifth.<\/p>\n Nimmo\u2019s 23rd home run of the season gave the Mets a two-run lead that helped them defeat the Rangers. But in the seventh, Texas came storming back into the ballgame.<\/p>\n Michael Helman<\/strong><\/a> hit a single, and Josh Smith<\/strong><\/a> was hit by a pitch. Wyatt Langford<\/strong><\/a> was then walked before Joc Peterson hit a two RBI single that scored Helman and Smith.<\/p>\n In response, Alvarez and Lindor hit singles, but were left stranded on base after Soto and Alonso flew out.<\/p>\n During the ninth inning, Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka<\/strong><\/a> hit a single. However, Mets reliever Edwin Diaz<\/strong><\/a> recorded the final two outs of the inning.<\/p>\n In the top of the tenth, Mets reliever Ryne Stanek<\/strong><\/a> was able to halt the Rangers’ comeback. Langford flew out to center and moved Smith to third.<\/p>\n Stanek then walked Pederson, but was able to strike out Garcia. Tellez, the Rangers’ first baseman, hit a pop-up to Mark Vientos<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n The Mets’ lineup recorded seven hits and five RBI to defeat the Rangers. Soto ended with one RBI, Alonso had three, and Nimmo recorded one.<\/p>\n A common theme for the Mets early in Sunday\u2019s game was leaving runners on base. Lindor and Soto reached base on walks in the first inning, but Nimmo and Vientos couldn\u2019t score.<\/p>\n Starling Marte<\/strong><\/a> then hit a single in the second inning. Alvarez and Lindor were walked by Rangers starter Jacob Latz<\/strong><\/a>, but Soto grounded out to Tellez.<\/p>\n Mets reliever Brooks Raley<\/strong><\/a> allowed two runs to score, while Reed Garrett<\/strong><\/a> surrendered a hit and a walk.<\/p>\n The Mets’ next six games will be played at home.
