New York Mets<\/a> catcher Francisco Alvarez<\/a><\/strong> avoided a serious injury to his left arm after being hit by a pitch during Tuesday\u2019s game at Citi Field against the San Diego Padres<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With a 1\u20131 count in the bottom of the eighth, a sinker from Padres reliever Bradgley Rodriguez<\/a><\/strong> struck the catcher\u2019s left arm. Alvarez then crouched and held his elbow in pain before walking off the field.<\/p>\n

He was replaced by pinch hitter Hayden Senger<\/strong><\/a>, but was back in the dugout by the end of the night alongside his teammates as they celebrated the 8\u20133 triumph.<\/p>\n

Alvarez ended the game 0-for-3. According to manager Carlos Mendoza<\/strong><\/a>, the Mets will not be sending Alvarez in for X-rays because they don\u2019t believe it is a serious injury<\/a>.\u201cIt got him pretty good, but it didn\u2019t look like it got him in the elbow,\u201d Mendoza told reporters during a postgame interview. \u201cIt was more like the tricep area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alvarez Is Rehabbing From Two Minor Injuries<\/h4>\n

Alvarez avoided a serious injury at a crucial part of the Mets’ season. They are 1.5 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> for the last National League wild card spot.<\/p>\n

The Mets have 11 games left and need every win possible with the postseason starting September 30. Alvarez is also rehabbing from a sprained UCL in his right thumb and a broken left pinky.<\/p>\n

Injuries have become common for the catcher. Over the past two seasons, he has torn ligaments in both thumbs and multiple bones in his hand.<\/p>\n

This season, Alvarez has been hit by four pitches in addition to another at Triple-A.<\/p>\n

Alvarez Avoids Serious Injury and Has Been Productive<\/h4>\n

With 55 hits, eight home runs, and 45 RBI, Alvarez has emerged as one of the Mets’ more productive hitters. In 295 games, he\u2019s hitting .229 with a .729 OPS.<\/p>\n

In the last 15 games, Alvarez has recorded 12 hits, two home runs and six RBI. He has two hits, a home run and an RBI in the last seven games.<\/p>\n

The slew of injuries have slowed his production, but at least he avoids a serious one to his left arm. Alvarez is set to play in Wednesday\u2019s game against the Padres, while Luis Torrens<\/a><\/strong> has been reinstated from the 10-day IL and returned from a rehab assignment.<\/p>\n

Senger has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s game between the Mets and Padres is at 7:10 p.m. Eastern on SNY. Alvarez will be hitting eight in the order behind infielder Brett Baty<\/strong><\/a> and ahead of outfielder Cedric Mullins<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
