On Tuesday, the Baltimore Orioles<\/a> announced that Trevor Rogers<\/a> was named the team’s most valuable player for the 2025 season. Rogers, who is in his second year with the team, accumulated a 9-2 record for the Orioles this season. The former first-round pick leads Major League Baseball in ERA with a minimum of 100 innings with a 1.35. Rogers will almost certainly receive Cy Young Award votes, likely becoming the fourth Oriole in three years to receive at least one vote for the award.<\/p>\n Trevor Rogers was initially drafted by the Miami Marlins<\/a> 13th overall in the 2017 draft out of Carlsbad High School<\/a> in New Mexico. He was at one point the third overall prospect in the Marlins organization, making his MLB debut in the shortened 2020 campaign. In his rookie year and first full season in 2021, Rogers was named a National League All-Star, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting.<\/p>\n After two more full seasons in South Beach, at the trade deadline in 2024, Miami shipped Rogers to Baltimore for a duo of prospects: infielder Connor Norby<\/a> and outfielder Kyle Stowers<\/a>.<\/p>\n The start of Rogers’ tenure in Charm City was rocky. After coming to the Orioles, he started only four games and managed a 7.11 ERA in 2024. He then started the 2025 season on the Injured List.<\/p>\n Since his return from the IL, Rogers has been nothing short of magnificent. He amassed 106 2\/3 innings in 17 starts with a record of 9-2. As mentioned, Rogers leads Major League Baseball in ERA. He ranks second in WHIP (min. 100 innings) at 0.872. Rogers has 6.0 Wins Above Replacement (WAR), ranking him fifth among pitchers. The top four in the category all have at least 75 more innings pitched than Rogers.<\/p>\n Since 1920, only one pitcher has a better ERA than Trevor Rogers in a minimum of 16 starts. That man is Hall of Famer Bob Gibson<\/a> in 1968.
