The Boston Red Sox<\/a> secure a victory against the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>. This was in large part due to two separate three-run innings in the first and eighth<\/span>.<\/p>\n After a Jarren Duran<\/a><\/strong> strikeout, the Red Sox smacked around Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer<\/a><\/strong>. The Red Sox accrued five straight hits, including an RBI double from Masataka Yoshida<\/a><\/strong>, and a two-run single from Romy Gonzalez<\/a><\/strong>. When the top of the first ended, the Red Sox were up 3-0.<\/p>\n The next three innings saw failed attempts to put up more runs, despite getting a base hit in each inning. Yoshida came up in the top of the fifth, and launched a leadoff bomb, his 11th of the year.<\/p>\n Vladimir Guerrero Jr.<\/a><\/strong> did little to help the Blue Jays. After arguing a strike three call in the 7th inning, he got ejected from the game.<\/p>\n Carlos Narvaez<\/a><\/strong> once again came through with a clutch hit in the late innings. This time, a three-run home run gave the Red Sox some more insurance, making it a 7-0 ballgame.<\/p>\n A ninth-inning\u00a0home run from Isiah Kiner-Falefa<\/a><\/strong> gave the Blue Jays their only run of the game. As the Blue Jays seemingly were getting something going, Alejandro Kirk<\/a> <\/strong>hit a ball into right field that appeared to be a single. However, Wilyer Abreu<\/a><\/strong> gunned him at first base, going on the scorecard as a 9-3 put out.<\/p>\n Garrett Crochet<\/a><\/strong> has been known for going close to triple-digit pitch counts in games. Although Crochet still hit 100 pitches, he went deeper than usual. He excelled in getting quick innings throughout his eight innings of work. He hasn\u2019t gone eight innings in a game since his complete game shutout against the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> on July 12.<\/p>\n The Red Sox went 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position, while managing double-digit hits off of Scherzer.<\/p>\n Payton Tolle<\/a><\/strong> was the only pitcher the Red Sox needed to use out of the bullpen, which was very much needed after using their top four arms last game.<\/p>\n Duran once again walked away with multiple strikeouts at the plate. He hasn\u2019t mustered a hit yet in the series. Duran, as a cornerstone of the franchise, cannot be slumping this close to the playoffs if the Red Sox want to succeed.<\/p>\n The Red Sox will look for a sweep once again on Thursday. However, they have failed their last three attempts at sweeps after only needing one more game to secure them. They will look for their first sweep since August 28, when they completed the sweep against their AL East rivals, the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>.
