The Boston Red Sox<\/a> fail to clinch a playoff spot, losing to the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>, 6\u20131, Thursday. Their offense was non-existent for most of the game, as the Blue Jays had a perfect game bid through six innings on a bullpen day.<\/p>\n

Red Sox Vs. Blue Jays Game Summary<\/h3>\n

Despite some rallies from the Blue Jays, particularly the third inning, no runs were scored until the sixth inning. Brayan Bello<\/a><\/strong> loaded the bases in the sixth, before Red Sox manager Alex Cora<\/a><\/strong> opted to put in Justin Wilson<\/a><\/strong> to get them out of the jam.<\/p>\n

Wilson grooved an 0\u20132 fastball down the middle to Daulton Varsho<\/a><\/strong>. He drove it to deep right, into the Red Sox bullpen, giving the Blue Jays a 4\u20130 lead.<\/p>\n

Two batters later, after an Andres Gimenez<\/a><\/strong> double, Zack Kelly<\/a><\/strong> came in to pitch. Kelly faired not much better. George Springer<\/a><\/strong> came up with two outs, and took Kelly deep, giving the Blue Jays a 6\u20130 lead.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox finally secured their first hit in the seventh with a Jarren Duran<\/a><\/strong> double. Trevor Story<\/a><\/strong> followed up with an RBI single to put them on the board.<\/p>\n

Despite a late rally in the ninth, the Red Sox failed to comeback.<\/p>\n

What Went Right for the Red Sox<\/h2>\n

No Perfect Game<\/h3>\n

The Blue Jays didn\u2019t actually get the perfect game. Also, no goose eggs showed up on the scoreboard Thursday. They showed some fight in the last three innings, even if it was all for not.<\/p>\n

What Went Wrong for the Red Sox<\/h2>\n

Bello in for Too Long<\/h3>\n

Once again, just like Lucas Giolito<\/a><\/strong> on September 17 against the Athletics<\/a>, Alex Cora left his starter in the game long enough to load the bases. Cora keeps setting his relievers to fail when they\u2019re thrust into bases loaded situations.<\/p>\n

Non-Existent Offense<\/h3>\n

Simply put, the Red Sox offense played like they already clinched a playoff spot. There were no hits until the seventh, and three in the entire game after hitting the cover off the baseball in the first two games. Duran also went 1-for-13 with a walk and a hit by pitch for the series.<\/p>\n

Red Sox Fail to Clinch<\/h3>\n

Now, the Red Sox have three games left against the Detroit Tigers<\/a>. They are another team that are trying to clinch a spot, so the Red Sox have to fight a whole lot more than they did in this game.<\/p>\n

Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n

The situation for the Red Sox is simple, win and they\u2019re in. They will look to be the third AL East team to clinch a playoff birth on the season, joining the Blue Jays, as well as the New York Yankees<\/a>.<\/p>\n
