The New York Mets<\/a> recall Jared Young<\/a> from Triple-A Syracuse after placing infielder Brett Baty<\/a> on the 10-day IL. Baty will miss the last two games of the season after straining his right oblique during Friday\u2019s game against the Miami Marlins.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt hurts a lot, but I\u2019m going to root on my teammates and we\u2019re going to try to go to the postseason today and tomorrow,\u201d Baty said during an interview with SNY<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Baty Went Down in the First<\/h2>\n

Heading into the three-game series against Miami, Baty was batting .254 with a .748 OPS. He had also recorded 18 home runs, 50 RBI, and eight stolen bases. During his last seven games, Baty hit a home run and three RBI. He recorded three home runs, seven RBI, and two stolen bases in his previous 15 appearances.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought I played great,\u201d Baty added. \u201cHelped the ballclub win, that\u2019s all I was trying to do. Put together good at-bats and play good defense.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Despite the solid statistics, the infielder exited the game against the Marlins after the first inning due to an awkward swing attempt and a long throw he made to Pete Alonso<\/a> to record the final out of the inning. He was replaced at third base by Ronny Mauricio<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mets Recall Young<\/h2>\n

Manager Carlos Mendoza<\/a> said Baty\u2019s injury is a \u201cbig blow\u201d to the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a big blow, but we\u2019ve got other guys that are going to get an opportunity and they\u2019re going to have to step up,\u201d Mendoza added.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Mets manager also noted that the club decided to recall Young, who will be a pinch-hitter. Mauricio will start at third base. Young, 30, recorded four home runs and six RBI with a .190 average and .739 OPS. Mauricio, 24, has hit six home runs and 10 RBI with four stolen bases. He has a .228 average and a .667 OPS.<\/p>\n

Young has hit a home run and two RBI in his last seven appearances. Mauricio recorded one hit in that same span.<\/p>\n

The Mets decided to recall Young before Saturday\u2019s game against the Marlins. The game will be at 4:10 p.m. Eastern on SNY.<\/p>\n
