The year-end grades for the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> in the 2025 season are a mixture of good and bad. They finished the season with an 80-82 record, good for fourth place in the NL West standings. Although they were never really in contention to win the division, they were in the Wild Card hunt all the way through game 157 and were not officially eliminated from a Wild Card berth until game 160 with a 7-4 loss to the San Diego Padres<\/a>. This comes as a bit of a disappointment for a team with a preseason win total of over\/under 86.5. We’ll take a look at how the Arizona Diamondbacks grade in all the key areas for the season.<\/p>\n

Offense: B<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Arizona’s offense had solid stretches and produced enough to keep them in many games. Their run production of 4.89 runs per game put them sixth in MLB and only 0.35 runs per game behind the MLB-leading New York Yankees<\/a>. They had some strong offensive performers with Eugenio Suarez<\/a>, Corbin Carroll<\/a>, Ketel Marte<\/a>, and Geraldo Perdomo<\/a> all having solid seasons. But, they were also in the top ten in MLB in strikeouts per game, finishing eighth with 8.81. The good outweighed the bad on offense, giving the Arizona Diamondbacks offense a solid B.<\/p>\n

Starting Pitching: C-<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Diamondbacks’ 2025 starting pitching was at best average. Merrill Kelly<\/a> delivered a fine 3.22 ERA and 1.057 WHIP before being traded. Zac Gallen<\/a> had the worst ERA of his career at 4.83, but did put in 192 innings with 175 strikeouts. Brandon Pfaadt<\/a> and Eduardo Rodriguez<\/a> had ERAs of 5.00 and 5.02. It was a struggle all year, so the Diamondbacks get a C- for overall starting pitching.<\/p>\n

Relief Pitching: F<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The bullpen was clearly the weakest link. The Arizona Diamondbacks’ relief pitching struggles were evident all year long. They ranked twenty-seventh in ERA and blew 29 saves, converting on only 59.2% of save opportunities. Late-inning home runs and last-inning collapses made fans nervous anytime the bullpen entered the game. The Diamondbacks’ bullpen stats place them solidly in the F grade.<\/p>\n

Defense: A<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As has been customary in recent years, the team showed excellent defense all year long. The Diamondbacks’ defensive fielding percentage was .986, which was number one in all of baseball. Corbin Carroll led the way in the outfield with nine assists and three double plays from right field. Up the middle, Marte had an excellent season, giving up only six errors and sporting a fielding percentage of .986. Defense was never a concern, so the A fits perfectly.<\/p>\n

Manager: B-<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Torey Lovullo’s manager grade is just above average. He wasn’t great, but he did manage the fourteenth youngest group of offensive players at 27.8 years old. He was also number one in the league in successful challenges at 72%, which was a full 2% higher than the second-place Houston Astros<\/a>. Some bullpen moves didn’t work out so great, but the blame goes more to the pitchers themselves rather than to Lovullo.<\/p>\n

Overall Year-End Grades for the Arizona Diamondbacks: C<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Using the Arizona Diamondbacks’ year-end grades to look toward the future, the picture is pretty clear. Offense and defense gave the 2025 Arizona Diamondback fans reason to cheer. The starting pitching was up and down. The bullpen consistently let the team down with failures. With those facts in mind, the Arizona Diamondbacks grade out at a respectable C.<\/strong> They’ve got a lot of work to do next year, filling in trade holes and shoring up the bullpen to get a better grade for the 2026 season and to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> in the NL West.<\/p>\n
