Across 13 matchups, the Red Sox won all but four, outscoring the Yankees 66\u201351 in the process. The Yankees were shut out twice, embarrassed 12\u20131 at home in August, and seemingly manhandled by their archrivals.<\/p>\n<p>However, they are still a quality baseball club. Winners of eight straight, the Yankees are baseball\u2019s hottest team. In fact, since August 11, the Yankees have the best record in the majors at 32\u201312. They hit the most home runs in the regular season, have a potent 1\u20132 punch with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/friedma01.shtml\"><strong>Max Fried<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rodonca01.shtml\"><strong>Carlos Rodon<\/strong><\/a>, and their bullpen has some of the top names in baseball. What did they do in all four of those games? They scored first. This isn\u2019t a coincidence. This isn\u2019t luck. This is evidence that, when the Yankees\u2019 potent offense lands the first punch, they win. By scoring first, New York puts less pressure on their starting pitchers and allows them to play with run support. If the Yankees take game one, he\u2019ll be tasked with closing out the series. But if the Yankees lose the first game, he\u2019ll have to save New York\u2019s season. No matter what the Yankees do to open the series, Rodon will need a quality start regardless. In 84 career games against the Red Sox, Stanton has hit .269 with 16 home runs and 47 RBI. But as much as he\u2019s dominated the Red Sox, Stanton has dominated the postseason even more. In 41 career postseason games, Stanton has 18 home runs and 40 RBI. Winners of 94 games in the regular season, their roster appears built for the postseason. But standing in their way is an all too familiar foe, one who has been successful against the Yankees for the past five months.
