The 2025 San Diego Padres<\/a> Regular season began on a strong note as the team went 7-0 for their first seven games, a franchise record. For their final series of the regular season, the San Diego Padres swept the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> at Petco Park to secure their sixth 90-plus win season in franchise history. This is the first time the Padres have completed two consecutive 90-plus win seasons in a row.<\/p>\n

The Padres have surged in recent years, emerging as a powerhouse in the already competitive National League West Division. The 2025 team, comprised of superstars like Fernando Tatis Jr.<\/a>, Manny Machado<\/a>, and Luis Arraez<\/a>, had their efforts pay off as the Padres are heading to the postseason once again. However, surprising newcomers like pitcher Nick Pivetta<\/a> and utility man Gavin Sheets<\/a> are equally responsible for some of the strongest production from the Friars.<\/p>\n

Much of the Padres’ recent success can be attributed to the incredible efforts of their front office. Since the Siedler family took over the Padres franchise, the team has thrived under their supervision. Additionally, GM AJ Preller’s efforts every season, especially during the trade deadline, have consistently propelled the team toward the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Of course, Manager Mike Shildt<\/a> deserves a large degree of credit for leading the team on the field.<\/p>\n

Mike Shildt<\/h2>\n

For Padres Manager Mike Shildt, this will be his third consecutive 90-plus win season, fourth if you do not count the COVID-19 baseball season. In this regard, Shildt has an excellent managerial record, and his time with the Padres is no exception.<\/p>\n

Playing in the NL West is already difficult with juggernauts like the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> and Diamondbacks. However, the Padres are now a part of the conversation and hold their own against their peers.<\/p>\n

In comparison to the Padres’ last 3 skippers’ full 162 seasons, Shildt’s short tenure has led the team to greater horizons. The Padres spent 23 days in first place this season; the Padres’ previous three managers couldn’t crack this number. The Padres would end up placing second in their division both seasons with Shildt. Between Bob Melvin<\/a>, Jayce Tingler<\/a>, and Andy Green<\/a>, only Melvin and Tingler saw similar success; however, the latter was during the COVID-shortened season.<\/p>\n

Postseason<\/h2>\n

Since 2019, Shildt has never missed the postseason with either team he’s managed. Despite not going the distance in 2024 with the Padres, Shildt maintained an above .500 win-loss percentage. This year is Shildt and the Padres’ chance to go the distance for the first time in franchise history.<\/p>\n
