Seattle Mariners<\/a> catcher Cal Raleigh<\/strong><\/a> was named the MLBPA\u00a0Player of the Year on Wednesday. He also received the AL Outstanding Player of the Year award. Raleigh was recognized in this year\u2019s Players’ Choice Awards for putting together one of the best seasons in recent memory.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a record-setting season for Cal Raleigh, who rewrote the history books with his unprecedented power surge,\u201d MLBPA wrote<\/a> in a press release.<\/p>\n

\u201cRaleigh hit the most home runs in a single season by a Seattle Mariner, a switch-hitter and a catcher, while becoming the first Player to homer 20 or more times from both sides of the plate and winning the All-Star game Home Run Derby.\u201d<\/p>\n

MLBPA Player of the Year<\/h4>\n

Raleigh became the MLBPA Outstanding Player of the Year after ending this season with a league-best 60 home runs and 125 RBI, ranking third most in the majors. In 596 at-bats, he recorded 147 hits, 24 doubles and 110 runs. The catcher ended the season with a .247 average, .948 OPS and a 7.3 WAR.<\/p>\n

In the postseason, Raleigh went on to hit five home runs, eight RBI and two doubles. He took part in helping the Mariners eliminate the Detroit Tigers<\/a> in the ALDS. This came before the Mariners lost to the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> in the ALCS. On top of winning the 2025 Home Run Derby, where he hit 54 home runs, Raleigh also played in his first All-Star Game.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Cal Raleigh is the third Mariners player in team history to receive the award. Alex Rodriguez<\/a><\/strong> received it twice, Ken Griffey Jr.<\/strong><\/a> and Ichiro Suzuki<\/strong><\/a> won it once during their respective tenures with the Mariners.<\/p>\n

Looking Ahead<\/h4>\n

Cal Raleigh winning the MLBPA Outstanding Player of the Year can help increase his chances of becoming the AL MVP. The winner will be chosen by the Baseball Writers\u2019 Association of America and will be announced on Nov. 13 during the Major League Baseball Awards ceremony in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
