The New York Mets<\/a> have tendered contracts to six players before Friday\u2019s arbitration deadline. The major league club also non-tendered three players and agreed to a deal with an outfielder.<\/p>\n

Mets Tender Contracts<\/h4>\n

At 5:16 pm Eastern, the Mets tendered contracts to starting pitcher David Peterson<\/strong><\/a>, catchers Francisco Alvarez<\/strong><\/a> and Luis Torrens<\/strong><\/a>, and pitchers Tylor Megill<\/a>, Huascar Brazoban<\/a><\/strong> and Reed<\/strong> Garrett<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong> All six men were key to leading the team to a 40\u201324 start, before ending the season 83\u201379 and outside of the postseason. However, having them back<\/a> on the diamond can help them return to the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Peterson, 30, had one of his most impressive seasons, finishing with a 9\u20136 record and a 4.22 ERA. He made his first All-Star appearance by collecting 150 strikeouts in 168 innings. Alvarez hit 11 home runs, 32 RBI and 12 doubles in 246 at bats. Torrens, meanwhile, had five home runs, 29 RBI, 14 doubles and 59 hits in his second season in Queens. This season, he had a .226 average and a .345 slugging percentage, compared to Alvarez\u2019s .256 average.<\/p>\n

Megill went 5\u20135 in 14 starts, with a 3.95 ERA. The 30-year-old right-hander recorded 89 strikeouts, but gave up six home runs and 30 earned runs. His teammate, Brazoban, went 5\u20132 in 52 games with a 3.57 ERA. The 36-year-old right-hander struck out 57 batters in 63 innings. Garrett, meanwhile, went 3\u20136 in 58 appearances with a 3.90 ERA. In 55 innings, he had 64 strikeouts, five home runs and 24 earned runs. Additionally, the Mets and outfielder Tyrone Taylor<\/strong><\/a> agreed to a $3.8 million deal for next season to avoid arbitration. In 113 games, he hit two home runs and 27 RBI on a .223 average. Even though Taylor\u2019s statistics don\u2019t jump out, he has proven his worth when it comes to defense.<\/p>\n

The Mets\u2019 front office opted not to tender contracts to pitchers Danny Young<\/strong><\/a>, Jose Castillo<\/strong><\/a>, and Max Kranick<\/a><\/strong>. As a result, all three players will become free agents. This gives them the option to sign with any club willing to provide them with a contract. Following his first season at Citi Field, Kranick will no longer be on the Mets roster. The righty went 3\u20132 in 24 games with a 3.65 ERA. He also had 25 strikeouts in 37 innings. Young, on the other hand, played two seasons with the Mets. In eight innings, he had 13 strikeouts with a 4.32 ERA. Castillo, lastly, went 1\u20131 in 15 innings with a 2.35 ERA. He didn\u2019t end his season with the Mets. After a short stint with the Seattle Mariners<\/a>, Castillo ended his season with the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>.<\/p>\n
