Veteran infielder Marcus Semien<\/strong><\/a> is excited about playing for the\u00a0New York Mets<\/a> in 2026. The 35-year-old was sent to Queens from the Texas Rangers<\/a> in a trade for outfielder Brandon Nimmo<\/strong><\/a> on Sunday. Semien spoke with the media on Tuesday over a video call to discuss what he can do for the Mets.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know in this business, anything can happen,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m excited to join a ballclub that has good veteran players, Hall of Famers, and strong young players that look hungry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Semien will play alongside Juan Soto<\/strong><\/a> and Francisco Lindor<\/strong><\/a>. As a three-time All-Star and two-time Rawlings Gold Glove recipient, he is expected to play a key role in taking the team’s defense to another level. With a World Series title in 2023 and having eight seasons with 159 games played, Semien is a proven leader.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy style as a leader, it\u2019s definitely something that has evolved. I think one thing that has remained constant for me is leading by example with how I work, leading by example with how I respect each member of the organization,\u201d Semien added.<\/p>\n

Semien is Excited About New York<\/h4>\n

Last season, Semien had 62 RBI, 15 home runs and 16 doubles, a substantial regression from his prior seasons with the Rangers. However, he plans to improve during his first season in Queens.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m disappointed in the way I performed offensively last year,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019m a God-fearing man. A family man. I am extremely passionate about the game of baseball.\u201d<\/p>\n

The veteran infielder has played all 13 years of his major league career in the AL, starting with the Chicago White Sox<\/a>. But he has an affinity for playing in New York, which was his favorite place to play on the road. He can now call it home for the first time in his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen people ask me what\u2019s my favorite road city, I say New York,\u201d Semien said. \u201cNow I get to do what I love in a city in front of fans that love the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mets were a game shy of reaching the playoffs, something they\u2019ve done 11 times in their franchise history. They have hoisted two World Series titles in 1969 and 1986, but haven\u2019t reached the World Series since 2015. However, Semien has championship-winning experience and will look to bring that to Queens.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a strong history with the Mets organization,\u201d he concluded. \u201cThere have been great players who came through there and done some good things, and I want to be one of those players.\u201d<\/p>\n
