As the offseason continues, the New York Mets<\/a> face the question of whether it is worth trading Kodai Senga<\/strong><\/a>. The right-hander showed potential to become the Mets’ ace during his first season. However, following a disappointing past two campaigns, reports have suggested that the team has been listening to trade offers for Senga. That can happen if they move him for another All-Star caliber pitcher.<\/p>\n

Kodai Senga<\/h4>\n

Kodai Senga, 32, has shown that he has upside in his short career. During his first season with the Mets, he went 12\u20137 with 202 strikeouts in 166 innings. He had a 2.98 ERA in 2023 and was named an All-Star. But that year he gave up 126 hits, 55 earned runs, 17 home runs and 77 walks.<\/p>\n

In Senga\u2019s next season, he made only one start due to a slew of injuries. That year, the Mets reached the 2024 NLCS, but Senga was absent from that postseason run. The Japanese product returned in 2025, looking to make up for the missed time. However, his season was again derailed by a right hamstring strain. The injury took him out of action for some time.<\/p>\n

Senga ultimately ended his third campaign going 7\u20136 with 109 strikeouts in 113 innings. He had a 3.02 ERA and allowed 94 hits, 12 home runs and 55 walks. Considering his injury history, Senga has been one of the players that the Mets can trade this offseason.<\/p>\n

Trades the Mets can Make<\/h4>\n

If the Mets decide to move on from Senga this offseason, two proven starters they can target are Tarik Skubal<\/strong><\/a> and Freddy Peralta<\/strong><\/a>. Skubal, 29, has been the center of many trade discussions. That is because there is an ongoing contract dispute between him and the Detroit Tigers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Skubal has emerged as one of the best pitchers in the majors after winning the past two AL CY Young awards. In 2024, he went 18\u20134 with 228 strikeouts. He had a 2.39 ERA and made his first All-Star appearance. That season, he helped lead the Tigers to an 86\u201376 record and a playoff berth. Skubal got back to business this season, going 13\u20136 on a 2.21 ERA. He had 241 strikeouts in 195 innings. The lefty made his second straight All-Star and playoff appearance.<\/p>\n

Peralta, meanwhile, is coming off his second All-Star season with the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a>. The 29-year-old went 17\u20136 and struck out 204 batters this season. His 2.70 ERA helped the Brewers reach the NLCS, where they fell to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>. If sent to Queens, he will reunite with David Stearns, the Mets’ president of baseball operations and general manager.<\/p>\n

Both players are viable options for the Mets to trade Senga for this offseason. If a deal is made, it will likely include other players and prospects from the club’s farm system.<\/p>\n
