The New York Mets<\/a> and free agent reliever Luke Weaver<\/a><\/strong> agreed to terms on a two-year, $22 million contract Wednesday afternoon. The club has yet to confirm the deal, pending a physical examination. Joel Sherman<\/a> of The<\/em> New York Post<\/em> first reported this development.<\/p>\n

During his stint in the Bronx, Weaver became an established reliever, helping the New York Yankees<\/a> reach the 2024 World Series and the 2025 ALDS. That made him one of the top relievers on the free-agent market.<\/p>\n

The move comes after Luke Weaver spent the past three seasons in the AL East. The 32-year-old is crossing over to the NL East, similar to his former teammate Devin Williams<\/strong><\/a>. Williams signed with the Mets on a three-year, $51 million deal earlier this offseason. Weaver will reunite with former Yankees outfielder Juan Soto<\/strong><\/a> and pitcher Clay Holmes<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

What Luke Weaver Can do for the Mets<\/h4>\n

Luke Weaver had a breakout season in 2024, recording 103 strikeouts in 84 innings. In the postseason, he struck out 16 batters in 15 innings. Overall, he went 4-for-4 on saves with 21 Goose Eggs and four broken Eggs. However, that year he gave up 52 hits, 27 earned runs and 10 home runs in the regular season. Weaver walked 26 hitters in 2024.<\/p>\n

In 2025, the Yankees utilized him as a setup man for Williams. Weaver regressed partially due to a left hamstring strain that put him on the injured list in June. In 64 2\/3 innings, he had 72 strikeouts and went 8-for-12 in save opportunities with 27 goose eggs and eight broken eggs. He gave up 46 hits, 26 earned runs and 10 home runs in his final campaign with the Yankees.<\/p>\n

For the Mets, it\u2019s a reasonable signing, considering they are coming off an 83\u201379 record in 2025. They were a game shy of clinching a playoff berth. President of Baseball Operations and General Manager David Stearns is rebuilding the bullpen by bringing established talent to his team. The Mets have already set up men A.J. Minter<\/strong><\/a> and Brooks Raley<\/strong><\/a> in their bullpen. Weaver will join his former teammates, Williams and Holmes, in Queens.<\/p>\n
