The New York Mets<\/a> offered Kyle Tucker<\/strong><\/a> a short-term $50 million contract in an attempt to sign the top free agent outfielder. The length of the deal remains unknown. MLB insider Robert Murray<\/a> was first to report on this development Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Tucker, 28, is expected to make a decision soon on what team he will play for this season. The Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>, Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> and Mets are the projected landing spots for the 2022 World Series champion.<\/p>\n

Mets Remain Interested in Kyle Tucker<\/h4>\n

There\u2019s no question that the Mets have been interested in signing Kyle Tucker. That is because he can easily fill an outfield gap left by Brandon Nimmo<\/strong><\/a>, who they traded to the Texas Rangers<\/a>. Tucker will likely slot into the top of the order behind Francisco Lindor<\/strong><\/a> and Juan Soto<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Will Sammon<\/a> of The Athletic<\/em> reported that \u201cthe Mets are in the range of offering $120 million to $140 million for three years\u201d to sign Tucker. But Sammon said the primary concern is whether that will be enough. The Blue Jays and Dodgers might give a better offer.<\/p>\n

The Mets met with Tucker virtually last week to discuss a potential contract offer. Additionally, Tucker spoke to the Dodgers and Blue Jays for similar reasons.<\/p>\n

Mets Have the Upper Hand<\/h4>\n

The chances that the Mets can close in on a deal for Tucker are favorable since multiple members of their organization have worked with him in the past. President of baseball operations David Stearns worked with the Houston Astros<\/a> organization when Tucker was drafted by them in 2015. Mets hitting coach Troy Snitker was Tucker\u2019s coach for five years. Furthermore, hitting coach Jeff Albert worked with Tucker in the Astros’ minor league system.<\/p>\n

One can assume that Kyle Tucker will be looking to receive a hefty salary because he\u2019s coming off his fourth consecutive All-Star season. With the Chicago Cubs<\/a>, he tallied 133 hits, 25 doubles and 22 home runs on a .266 batting average. The Mets extended an offer, but they will have to wait until the Dodgers and Blue Jays submit their offers to Tucker, allowing him to make a final decision.<\/p>\n
