The San Diego Padres<\/a> have agreed to a one\u2013year $4 million deal with outfielder Miguel Andujar<\/a><\/strong>, per ESPN\u2019s Jeff Passan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Padres\u2019 quiet offseason appears to be ramping up with recent news of the Padres finally making moves to sell the franchise to a new suitor.<\/p>\n

This most recent signing from the Friars is nothing new for the team. With a mostly solidified starting nine, it\u2019s mostly the details General Manager AJ Preller has to hash out every offseason. Last year, they made a flurry of additions to their roster, including the likes of Yuli Gurriel<\/strong><\/a>, Jason Hayward<\/strong><\/a> and Connor Joe<\/strong><\/a>. All of which were really just low-risk experiments that never really panned out for the group. With that said, Andujar may be a little different.<\/p>\n

Andjuar’s Bounce Back<\/h4>\n

Few could have expected such a bounce-back season for the major league veteran after going through the motions following his stellar sophomore season with the New York Yankees<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He played 135 games for the Athletics<\/a> between 2024 and 2025, knocking in 10 homers, 57 RBI and batting .290.<\/p>\n

He was traded a little over halfway through the 2025 season to the Cincinnati Reds<\/a>, playing 34 games with the club and slashing .359\/.400\/.544 with .944 OPS. A small sample size for sure, but this is most definitely the glimmer of brilliance the Padres see in this clearly still-valuable slugger, who approaches his age 31 season.<\/p>\n

A New Approach<\/h4>\n

What this may also signal is a change in approach for the so-called Swinging Friars, who spent the majority of the previous season struggling with just that.<\/p>\n

A slug-heavy hitter with experience at multiple positions and as a DH is exactly what the club is looking for to make that idea a reality.<\/p>\n

According to AJ Preller, the team is still looking to expand over the next few weeks. Outside of more sluggers, the team needs at least one more starter to round out its rotation. This is evident, given their loss of Dylan Cease<\/strong><\/a> and Yu Darvish<\/strong><\/a> to free agency and injury, respectively.<\/p>\n

For now, Andjuar is a good omen of more to come from the creative mind of Preller.<\/p>\n
