The Texas Rangers<\/a> reunited with a familiar face when they agreed to terms on a contract with righty Jordan Montgomery<\/a><\/strong>. News of the signing was first reported Wednesday by Evan Grant<\/a> of The Dallas Morning News<\/em>. The new deal covers the 2026 season and is worth $1.25 million. Performance bonuses are also included in the pact.<\/p>\n

Long Road Back<\/h4>\n

Jordan Montgomery, 33, missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March. He\u2019ll open the season on the 60-day injured list. Montgomery figures to factor into the Rangers\u2019 rotation later this year once he has completed his rehab assignments.<\/p>\n

Grant suggests that could come at some point in the second half, though it\u2019s at least plausible the left-hander could return before that if he avoids any setbacks in his rehab. Nathan Eovaldi<\/a><\/strong>, Jacob deGrom<\/a><\/strong>, MacKenzie Gore<\/a><\/strong>, and Jack Leiter<\/a><\/strong> all appear to be more or less locked into rotation spots for the Rangers to open 2026, with Jacob Latz<\/a> <\/strong>and Kumar Rocker<\/a><\/strong> among the options to kick off the season in the fifth rotation spot.<\/p>\n

Return to Form<\/h4>\n

Whenever Montgomery does return to the mound at Globe Life Field, the quality of his performance will be a source of considerable intrigue. It wasn\u2019t all that long ago that Montgomery was a World Series hero in Arlington who hit the open market coming off a stretch of seasons with the Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>, and New York Yankees<\/a> where he looked like a high-end starter.<\/p>\n

As injuries to pitchers become more common around the majors, it\u2019s impossible to say what the state of the Rangers rotation will look like once Montgomery is healthy enough to rejoin the staff. If everyone is healthy, Montgomery takes over that fifth starter job if Latz and\/or Rocker have struggled, or could simply expand the Rangers\u2019 rotation to six men depending on the needs of the club at the time.<\/p>\n
