The New York Mets<\/a> went to a 6\u20136 draw with the Houston Astros<\/a> Tuesday in a spring training matchup at Clover Park. The Mets scored five runs in the first two innings before the Astros tied the ballgame in the ninth. The game ended in a draw because spring training games rarely go into extra innings.<\/p>\n Outfielder Juan Soto<\/strong><\/a> hit a single to reach base during the first. Bo Bichette<\/strong><\/a> did the same, moving his teammate over to second base. Veteran outfielder Mike Tauchman<\/strong><\/a> launched a three-run home run, which scored the two base runners. Ronny Mauricio<\/strong><\/a> followed it up with a solo home run. This extended the Mets’ lead to four.<\/p>\n Marcus Semien<\/strong><\/a> hit a double in the second inning. After that, the infielder reached third because of a wild pitch. Bichette hit a sacrifice fly to score Semien.<\/p>\n Shay Whitcomb<\/strong><\/a> of the Astros reached on a walk. Nick Allen<\/strong><\/a> hit a single, advancing his teammate to second. Cesar Salazar<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s flyout moved Whitcomb to third before Jeremy Pe\u00f1a<\/strong><\/a> was walked. Zach Cole<\/strong><\/a> was then hit by a pitch, scoring Whitcomb and bringing the Mets’ lead down to three.<\/p>\n Austin Barners hit a double for the Mets in the sixth. Jose Rojas<\/strong><\/a> was nailed by a pitch, moving his teammate to second. A Ben Rortvedt<\/strong><\/a> groundout moved Barners to third, who was eventually scored by AJ Ewing\u2019s sacrifice fly. This gave the Mets a five-run lead.<\/p>\n However, the Astros mounted a comeback that began the next inning. Riley Unroe<\/strong><\/a> was walked, before reaching second on a single from Taylor Trammell<\/strong><\/a>. Brice Matthews<\/strong><\/a> hit an RBI single to score Unroe. CJ Alexander<\/strong><\/a> was struck by a pitch, moving both base runners into scoring position. Carlos Perez<\/strong><\/a> answered the call, scoring Matthews and Trammell on a two-run single.<\/p>\n Garrett Guillemette was walked to start the ninth inning. Perez followed this with a single, as Jax Biggers<\/strong><\/a> was walked. With base runners in scoring position, Kellen Strahm<\/strong><\/a> hit into a force out to score Guillemette. Lucas Spence<\/strong><\/a> hit the game-tying RBI single, which brought Perez home.<\/p>\n Facing a draw with the Astros, the Mets couldn\u2019t get much going in the bottom of the ninth. Yonny Hernandez<\/strong><\/a> reached on a walk, but every other batter was unable to do the same. The Mets end the ballgame with a 2\u20131\u20131 record. The Astros, meanwhile, remain winless at 0\u20132\u20131.<\/p>\n Off-season additions Semien, Bichette and Tauchman were able to showcase their talent as members 0f the Mets. Mauricio hit a deep home run, putting him in a good position to have a shot at making the roster with Francisco Lindor<\/strong><\/a> out. The Mets, overall, had seven hits and five RBI in a draw with the Astros. Tauchman, meanwhile, tallied three RBI from his first-inning blast.<\/p>\n Daniel Duarte<\/strong><\/a> gave up three hits, three runs and one walk in less than an inning of relief. Duarte’s faltering was enough to give the Astros some breathing room. This helped them score the game-tying runs in the ninth.<\/p>\n The Mets will play the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a> Wednesday at 1:10 pm Eastern, while the Astros will face the Miami Marlins<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\nMets Score Five<\/h4>\n
