Multiple members of the New York Mets<\/a> have stepped up their efforts across the first week of spring training.<\/p>\n

Outfielder Tyrone Taylor<\/strong><\/a> has shown signs of progression in the outfield, as MJ Melendez<\/strong><\/a> has found similar success. Ronny Mauricio<\/strong><\/a> has emerged as a viable replacement for shortstop Francisco Lindor<\/strong><\/a>, who is nursing a hand injury. Righty Tobias Myers<\/strong><\/a>, meanwhile, has put together good outings from the mound.<\/p>\n

Outfielder\u2019s Start Spring Training Hot<\/h4>\n

In seven seasons, Taylor is no stranger to playing at a prominent level. He spent his past two seasons playing under the bright lights of Citi Field as a valuable member of the Mets outfield. But in spring training he has transcended to something more.<\/p>\n

In five appearances, he tallied three hits, two home runs and four RBI. This is good enough to give him an edge over prospect Carson Benge<\/strong><\/a>, who he is competing against for right field.<\/p>\n

Melendez, on the other hand, has been able to put the ball in play multiple times out of left field. In five plate appearances, he tallied four hits, two home runs, five RBI and a double. If he continues to impress at the plate, the Mets could give him a spot that will allow him to come off the bench.<\/p>\n

A Viable Replacement<\/h4>\n

The 24-year-old Mauricio hasn\u2019t received much time to showcase his capabilities in the majors. Mauricio debuted in 2023 and tallied 25 hits, four doubles, two home runs and nine RBI in 26 appearances. He missed the 2024 season due to injury, but returned in 2025, making 61 appearances and recording 38 hits, six doubles, six home runs, and 10 RBI.<\/p>\n

It has taken him some time to find a place on the roster, especially with the front office retooling it this offseason. However, spring training is where he began to break out, recording four hits, a home run and an RBI in six plate appearances. If Mauricio continues to progress, he can find himself starting in place of Lindor until the shortstop is ready to go. From there, the Mets can utilize Mauricio on the bench in a pinch-hitting role.<\/p>\n

Quality Outings<\/h4>\n

The Mets made a blockbuster trade to acquire Freddy Peralta<\/strong><\/a> from the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> late in the offseason. But from the deal, they brought in Myers, a versatile right-hander who can start or come out of the bullpen.<\/p>\n

In spring training, Myers is 1\u20131 with seven strikeouts and a 1.69 ERA. However, he did surrender five hits, a walk and an earned run. His performances give the Mets pause about whether he should join the rotation or remain in the bullpen.<\/p>\n
