The Texas Rangers<\/a> have agreed to terms on a major league deal with reliever Jalen Beeks<\/a><\/strong>. News of the signing was first reported by\u00a0Evan Grant<\/a> of The Dallas Morning News<\/em>. The deal is pending a physical. The Rangers will need to create a 40-man roster spot once the deal is final.<\/p>\n

Durable Lefty<\/h4>\n

With two weeks to go until the regular season opens, the Rangers are making sure their bullpen is in place with Jalen Beeks on hand. The veteran left-hander spent the 2025 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> on a $1.25 million contract.<\/p>\n

He made 61 appearances, posting a 3.77 earned run average across 57 1\/3 innings. There\u2019s a decent chance he would have been traded at the deadline if not for a three-week stint on the injured list in July due to lower back inflammation.<\/p>\n

Varied Arsenal<\/h4>\n

Beeks doesn\u2019t have a great breaking ball. That is one of the things that separates him from most lefties. He only used his cutter around 10% of the time last season. Beeks works mostly with a 94-95 mph fastball and an upper-80s changeup that serves as his best swing-and-miss pitch.<\/p>\n

He doesn\u2019t have the best platoon splits as a result. Beeks allowed similar slash lines to lefty (.218\/.266\/.345) and righty (.190\/.285\/.339) bats alike last year. His strikeout rate, however, was quite a bit higher when he had the platoon advantage.<\/p>\n

Keep the Ball on the Ground<\/h4>\n

Jalen Beeks, who turns 33 in July, finished the season as one of the rare veteran pieces in the Diamondbacks\u2019 bullpen. He allowed only four runs across his final 16 1\/3 innings. His underlying marks were middle of the road. He had a slightly below-average 20.3% strikeout rate with decent but unexceptional walk and ground-ball marks.<\/p>\n

Time Crunch<\/h4>\n

Beeks will have about two weeks to get ready for the start of the regular season. The Rangers will have a patched-together bullpen for a second straight year. Robert Garcia<\/a><\/strong> is their one high-leverage lefty. There\u2019s a good chance he gets some save opportunities. Tyler Alexander<\/a><\/strong> will pitch in a long relief role. Beeks isn\u2019t a pure specialist but can take some left-on-left matchups in the middle innings.<\/p>\n
