The New York Mets<\/a> will immortalize another franchise legend at Citi Field with the addition of Carlos Beltran<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s No. 15. A report from Mike Puma<\/a> of the New York Post<\/em> claimed that the club is planning on retiring Beltran\u2019s number this season. The team has yet to confirm the development, and the date of his jersey retirement ceremony remains unknown.<\/p>\n

The initial thought was to induct Beltran into the team Hall of Fame alongside Lee Mazzilli<\/strong><\/a> and Bobby Valentine<\/strong><\/a>. Plans changed, however, after Beltran was voted into the 2026 class of the Baseball Hall of Fame in January. To pay his respects to his former team, his plaque will feature a Mets cap<\/a>, making him the third player in franchise history to hold that distinction. Tom Seaver<\/strong><\/a> and Mike Piazza<\/strong><\/a> are the only other two to represent the Mets organization in Cooperstown.<\/p>\n

Sitting Amongst Legends<\/h4>\n

Beltran set himself apart from many of the other franchise legends, who never had their number retired during their tenure’s with the Mets. In seven seasons in Queens, he tallied 878 hits, 149 home runs and 559 RBI on a .280 batting average. He made four of his nine All-Star appearances under the lights of Shea Stadium.<\/p>\n

The outfielder came fourth in National League MVP voting in the 2006 season with 41 home runs and 116 RBI. Those statistics made him the third player in franchise history to hit that milestone. Overall, he is one of four players all-time to record 1,500 runs, 2,700 hits, 400 home runs and 30 steals.<\/p>\n

Beltran\u2019s No. 15 will join franchise all-time greats Seaver (41), Piazza (31), Jerry Koosman<\/strong><\/a> (36), Keith Hernandez<\/strong><\/a> (17), Willie Mays<\/strong><\/a> (24), Dwight Gooden<\/strong><\/a> (16), Darryl Strawberry<\/strong><\/a> (18) and most recently David Wright<\/strong><\/a>. Wright had his infamous No. 5 retired during the summer of last season. Beltran\u2019s No. 15 is next in line to be retired as he will be inducted into Cooperstown on July 26.<\/p>\n
