The Cincinnati Reds<\/a> take the series with a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox<\/a> on Sunday inside Great American Ballpark. All the runs scored came courtesy of two players, as Wilyer Abreu<\/a> and Eugenio Suarez<\/a> were the only sources of runs in this contest.<\/p>\n

Red Sox-Reds Game Summary<\/h3>\n

Rhett Lowder<\/a> and Connelly Early<\/a> took care of business through the first three innings with little drama. The top of the fourth saw the first spark of offense. After a single from Willson Contreras<\/a>, Abreu decided one long ball for the series wasn’t enough for him. He launched a two-run dinger to right field to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

The Reds immediately threatened in the bottom half. Luckily, the fielding was there to help Early out. Suarez hit a deep fly ball to center field, but Jarren Duran<\/a> robbed him of his first home run of the year. Two batters later, Dane Myers<\/a> grounded into a 3-6 double play to end the inning and keep the shutout alive.<\/p>\n

Early would end up going 5 1\/3 innings, giving up five hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Greg Weissert<\/a> would take over and instantly mess things up. Two batters in, he grooved a high fastball to Suarez and gave up a three-run home run.<\/p>\n

The Reds bullpen was absolute nails, taking over for Lowder, who went an even five innings. Brock Burke<\/a>, Pierce Johnson<\/a>, and Tony Santillan<\/a> shut it down until Emilio Pagan<\/a> went in to notch his second save of the series. Despite Andruw Monasterio<\/a> and Roman Anthony<\/a> getting on in the ninth, their efforts were all for naught, with a Trevor Story<\/a> flyout ending the game.<\/p>\n

What Went Right for the Red Sox<\/h2>\n

Abreu’s Got The Juice<\/h3>\n

Abreu has picked up right where he left off last season. Especially in the last two games as the five-hole hitter, he’s absolutely killed baseballs. Abreu going 3-for-4 with two RBI was the only source of offense for Boston this game.<\/p>\n

What Went Wrong for the Red Sox<\/h2>\n

Top of the Order Struggles<\/h3>\n

Zero hits in 11 at-bats with three walks combined for the top of the lineup. That includes Story going 0-for-5 with two strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n

The Red Sox will head back to Boston for a three-game series against the Houston Astros<\/a>, starting Monday at 8:10 p.m. ET. Ranger Suarez<\/a> will make his Red Sox debut, taking the bump opposite Lance McCullers Jr.<\/a><\/p>\n
