The Boston Red Sox<\/a> lost Game One of their series against the Houston Astros<\/a>, 8\u20131, Monday night at Daikin Park. Lance McCullers Jr.<\/strong><\/a> tossed a gem, going seven innings and allowing one run that was earned, on four hits while striking out nine hitters.<\/p>\n The Astros offense, meanwhile, got after Ranger Suarez<\/strong><\/a> and Johan Oviedo<\/strong><\/a>, sending four long balls over the fence. Along with it, everyone in the starting lineup got a hit at some point.<\/p>\n After a 1-2-3 first inning, the Astros immediately loaded the bases. Suarez, in his first start with the Red Sox, was able to coax a double play ball out of Carlos Correa<\/strong><\/a>. This gave the Astros a 1\u20130 lead.<\/p>\n To start the third, Jose Altuve<\/strong><\/a> notched his second of four hits on the day. Yordan Alvarez<\/strong><\/a> followed up with his second dinger on the season down the right field line to make it 3\u20130. Brice Matthews<\/strong><\/a> left the yard to start the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 4\u20130. Suarez\u2019s outing ended two batters later after striking out Alvarez.<\/p>\n Johan Oviedo made his Red Sox debut out of the bullpen and finish out the fifth inning. Yainer Diaz<\/strong><\/a> came through with a sacrifice fly to score Cam Smith<\/strong><\/a> from third base.<\/p>\n It took until the seventh inning, but the Red Sox finally got some semblance of an offensive rally going. Wilyer Abreu<\/strong><\/a> continued his hot streak, lining a ground rule double to right to score Jarren Duran<\/strong><\/a>. Masataka Yoshida<\/strong><\/a> struck out pinch hitting for Caleb Durbin<\/strong><\/a>, who went 0-for-2.<\/p>\n All the efforts from the Red Sox in the seventh inning went up in smoke. Just like the smoke that could be found coming out of the Astros\u2019 home run train courtesy of Jose Altuve. He smoked a first-pitch hanging slider from Oviedo into the Crawford boxes to make it 6\u20131. Christian Walker<\/strong><\/a> nearly hit one out, but had to settle for a two-out RBI double to make it 7\u20131. Altuve decided one long ball wasn\u2019t enough, so he sent a second one out off of Oviedo.<\/p>\n Abreu was the only hitter to figure out McCullers Jr. this game, getting two hits against him. The rest of the lineup combined for just as many hits, with Duran and Carlos Narvaez<\/strong><\/a> tallying one hit each. The lineup also was sat down 12 times via strikeout.<\/p>\n Suarez managed to go only 4 1\/3 innings, giving up seven hits and four runs. Oviedo somehow did worse, giving up six hits and four runs in 3 2\/3 innings. Oviedo also notably had problems hanging his slider over the plate, and it was crushed as a result.<\/p>\n Game Two of the series will be on Tuesday starting at 8:10 pm Eastern.
