The Houston Astros<\/a> complete the series sweep against the Boston Red Sox<\/a> with a 6-4 win on Wednesday inside Daikin Park. A three-run home run by Carlos Correa<\/a> helped break the game open. Mike Burrows<\/a> got the win with five innings pitched, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six Red Sox batters.<\/p>\n

Red Sox-Astros Game Summary<\/h3>\n

With Roman Anthony<\/a> having the day off, Jarren Duran<\/a> would lead off for the Red Sox, notching a single to start the game. Three batters later, Willson Contreras<\/a> hit a single up the middle to drive in Duran to take a quick 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, Garrett Crochet<\/a> would allow back-to-back one-out doubles to Yordan Alvarez<\/a> and Isaac Paredes<\/a> to tie the game at 1-1.<\/p>\n

After a fielding error from Trevor Story<\/a>, Christian Walker<\/a> ripped a single to left field to take a 2-1 lead.\u00a0Duran tied things back up at 2-2 after a fielder’s choice scored Isiah Kiner-Falefa<\/a> from third in the top of the second.<\/p>\n

Crochet managed to get out of multiple jams throughout his first four innings. He would have to do that once again, as two runners were on base with two outs. Despite being one strike away from getting out of it, Correa had other thoughts. Correa belted a hanging sweeper into the Crawford boxes for a three-run bomb to give the Astros a 5-2 lead. Crochet then got the final out to finish the inning.<\/p>\n

Christian Vasquez<\/a> added another run for the Astros via a solo home run off of Danny Coulombe<\/a> in the seventh inning. Wilyer Abreu<\/a> notched his third home run of the year in the eighth, a solo homer to right field. Despite having bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Vasquez struck out looking.<\/p>\n

Roman Anthony pinch-hit for Kiner-Falefa to lead off the ninth inning. After going down 0-2, Anthony crushed a hanging curveball opposite field for his first home run of the season. Unfortunately, that’s all the Red Sox could muster. Bryan Abreu<\/a> rebounded and struck out Marcelo Mayer<\/a>, Duran, and Trevor Story in order to end the game.<\/p>\n

What Went Right for the Red Sox<\/h2>\n

Abreu’s Pop<\/h3>\n

Abreu is singlehandedly trying to prove the “no 20-home-run guys” prediction wrong. Despite the home run being pointless in the grand scheme of things, Abreu is still wicked hot at the plate.<\/p>\n

Start of Something New<\/h3>\n

Anthony didn’t look good in the slightest in the first two games of the series. Here’s hoping this home run helps to get him back into the form Red Sox fans expect from him.<\/p>\n

What Went Wrong for the Red Sox<\/h2>\n

Un-Clutch Hitting<\/h3>\n

The Red Sox went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position, with Contreras being the one in this situation.<\/p>\n

Durbin Remains Hitless<\/h3>\n

Caleb Durbin<\/a> went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Durbin has yet to record a base hit in 2026.<\/p>\n

Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n

The Red Sox will finally have their first home series of the year starting on Friday. They’ll be looking to rebound after this series sweep by the Astros. The San Diego Padres<\/a> visit Beantown for a three-game set, with Sonny Gray<\/a> and Michael King<\/a> as the projected pitchers for the opening contest.<\/p>\n
