Prospect Carson Benge<\/a><\/strong> is a week into his rookie season with the New York Mets<\/a>. He has been at the epicenter of great and unfortunate situations. He hit his first career home run in his major league debut, but also dropped a fly ball in his sixth game that led to his team’s third loss. These moments have helped highlight the potential upside and lowlights that come with having Benge on the roster.<\/p>\n

Carson Benge Has Talent<\/h4>\n

There\u2019s no question that Carson Benge brings grit, tenacity, and talent to this Mets roster. At 23-years-old, he\u2019s by far the youngest member on a team full of seasoned veterans in the prime of their respective careers.<\/p>\n

Benge got his career off to an impressive start. In his debut at Citi Field, he stole second in his first at-bat. Later that afternoon, he hit a ball over the wall for his first career home run. This gave the Mets a boost in momentum, as they went on to win that game by four runs.<\/p>\n

Benge remained at large on his first road trip. Against the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>, he tallied two hits and swiped a base. His speed and athleticism get the Mets into a rhythm, as they defeated the Cardinals by two.<\/p>\n

Still Learning<\/h4>\n

On the flip side, Carson Benge has experienced some unfortunate moments during his first six games. In the final two games of the Mets’ first series, he struck out twice against the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a>. He then failed to reach base in the final two games of the Cardinals series, striking out once.<\/p>\n

Benge\u2019s most appalling moment came in the third game against the Cardinals. As he went to catch a fly ball in the 11th, he slipped and failed to catch the ball. This would be the deciding factor in the ballgame, as his miscue would lead to the home team scoring the winning run.<\/p>\n

Much Time Remains<\/h4>\n

Although Carson Benge has had his fair share of success and low points, this shouldn\u2019t pose much of a problem. With 156 games left, the Mets can continue to work with him to prevent more of those mistakes. Having a team and outfield filled with veterans should help him further develop into a franchise player.<\/p>\n

Additionally, his struggles come as the entire team has struggled. If the others can get back into a rhythm, then that will help with Benge\u2019s development. If adjustments are properly made, this should help Benge during their upcoming four-game series against the San Francisco Giants<\/a>, where he will look to get back on track.<\/p>\n
