All-Star outfielder Juan Soto<\/strong><\/a> revealed that he avoided a serious injury to his calf ahead of the New York Mets<\/a>\u2019 next homestead. He was evaluated over the weekend, but will be re-evaluated when the team returns to Citi Field on Tuesday. For now, his injury is listed as day-to-day with a potential stint on the Injury List.<\/p>\n

\u201cWill give it 48 to 72 hours, see how it continues to progress,\u201d manager Carlos Mendoza<\/strong><\/a> said. \u201cI was surprised when I saw the way he was moving around, but calf injuries are tricky. We\u2019ll wait and continue to call it day-to-day until we have to make a decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Plenty of Replacements<\/h4>\n

The Mets will have to be careful to ensure Juan Soto fully recovers from this injury. Being out of action is something he\u2019s not used to, considering he\u2019s played in 150 or more games in every full season since 2019. Additionally, Soto got off to an impressive start to his second season in Queen, batting .355\/.412\/.516 with one home run and five RBI.<\/p>\n

However, if Juan Soto is to miss time this season, then the Mets have options. Tyrone Taylor<\/strong><\/a> hit a home run and scored four runs in place of his teammate. Optionally, the Mets can also move Carson Benge<\/strong><\/a> or Brett Baty<\/strong><\/a> to left field until Soto is ready to return. This will provide Mark Vientos<\/strong><\/a> with an opportunity to start in the infield.<\/p>\n

In Other News<\/h4>\n

Baty missed the Mets’ last game against the San Francisco Giants<\/a> due to a jammed thumb. Jared Young<\/strong><\/a> took over for him in that game. But Mendoza said Baty will be ready to play again soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was able to finish the game, a little sore afterward,\u201d Mendoza said of Baty\u2019s thumb. \u201cWe\u2019re just trying to be smart about it, and that\u2019s why he came out of the lineup.\u201d<\/p>\n
