ARLINGTON, Texas (Apr 8) \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a> completed a well-deserved sweep of the Seattle Mariners<\/a>, 3\u20130, Wednesday afternoon. Two of their three runs scored on a good at-bat by Brandon Nimmo<\/a><\/strong> in the fifth inning. With this series in the rearview mirror, the Rangers will head out on a 10-game road trip starting with three against the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>, beginning Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 Pacific at Dodger Stadium. Right-hander Kumar Rocker<\/a><\/strong> (0\u20131, 3.60 ERA) will make his second start for the Rangers, while Tyler Glasnow<\/a><\/strong> (1\u20130, 3.00 ERA) will get the ball for the Dodgers.<\/p>\n As for the Mariners, they’ll fly home to begin a three-game set against the Houston Astros<\/a>, also beginning Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 pm Central at T-Mobile Park. Right-hander Emerson Hancock<\/a><\/strong> (1\u20131, 0.71 ERA) will take the mound for the Mariners, and righty Tatsuya Imai<\/a><\/strong> (1\u20130, 4.32 ERA) will toe the slab for the Astros.<\/p>\n The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. With one out and Bryan Woo<\/a><\/strong> pitching for the Mariners, Danny Jansen<\/a><\/strong> hit an infield single. The ball was bobbled by Brendan Donovan<\/a><\/strong> at third. Jansen scurried to second thanks to a single to center by Josh Smith<\/a><\/strong>. Ezequiel Duran<\/a><\/strong> hit a third consecutive single for the Rangers that went to left to load the bases.<\/p>\n That brought up Nimmo. He reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on a throwing error by Mariners first baseman Connor Joe<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Wyatt Langford<\/a><\/strong> followed with a walk. Up next was Corey Seager<\/a><\/strong> who plated Duran with a sacrifice fly to center.<\/p>\n The Rangers caught a break in the fifth when Joe committed the throwing error at first. Sometimes scoring chances come at the most unexpected times in this game and when they do, it’s important to take advantage of them. Another example of this would be the bobble by Donovan at third earlier in the same inning.<\/p>\n As a team, the Rangers went 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position and they left four on base. This win was good, but they can always be more decisive. The area in which they could have improved was getting more men on base and finding other ways to score.<\/p>\n Rangers lefty MacKenzie Gore<\/a><\/strong> made his third start of the season, second at home, and earned his team-leading second win of the season, bringing his record to 2\u20130 with an ERA of 2.76. He tossed five scoreless innings with one hit allowed. His final line was 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 SO, 82 pitches\/49 strikes. Wednesday marked his sixth career start of five or more innings pitched and one or zero hits allowed. Gore struck out the side in the first and fourth innings.<\/p>\n After allowing a hit and striking out one in the ninth, reliever Cole Winn<\/a><\/strong> notched the first save of his career.<\/p>\n Mariners righty Bryan Woo was defeated by the Rangers for the first time since September 24, 2023, as a 41-pitch 5th inning interrupted what was shaping up to be an efficient outing. He now owns a record of 0\u20131 with an ERA of 1.50. Woo tossed 42 pitches through four scoreless frames, benefitting from Rob Refsnyder<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s home run robbery of Josh Smith in the bottom of the third. He ran into trouble in the fifth, yielding three straight one-out singles before the costly two-run throwing error by Connor Joe on a fielder\u2019s choice grounder.<\/p>\n After the game, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker<\/strong><\/a> spoke about the significance of this sweep for his team. “After a tough series against Cincinnati, it’s nice to come back and get three wins,” Schumaker said. “You always want to win more at home than lose. It was a really good series for us, and it says a lot about the clubhouse we have. Our guys went about their business the right way and showed up today ready to win.”<\/p>\n MacKenzie Gore also made an appearance to give his thoughts on his day. “I battled a little with my command, especially early in the game,” Gore remarked. “I was able to calm down and make pitches when I needed to.
