The Boston Red Sox secure first series win on the year with a 5\u20130 shutout victory over the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> on Wednesday afternoon. Sonny Gray<\/strong><\/a> got the win, going 6 1\/3 innings allowing three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.<\/p>\n Former long-time Red Sox prospect Shane Drohan<\/strong><\/a> took the bump for the Brewers for the final game. Despite falling behind in the count against all seven batters he faced in the first two innings, no runs were surrendered.<\/p>\n After Gray got out of a jam in the third, Drohan needed to get out of one himself. With the bases loaded and one out, Willson Contreras<\/a><\/strong> walked to give the Red Sox a 1\u20130 lead. Wilyer<\/strong> Abreu<\/strong><\/a> came up and hit a screamer at second baseman Joey Ortiz<\/strong><\/a>. Failing to receive it clean off the short hop, Abreu would be safe at first, driving in Isiah Kiner-Falefa<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Trevor Story<\/strong><\/a> came up and hit a fly ball out to right field that Sal Frelick<\/strong><\/a> barely got to with the wind blowing in. That scored former Brewer Andruw Monasterio<\/strong><\/a>, and ended Drohan’s day. It could’ve been worse, as the Red Sox stranded three that inning.<\/p>\n Sonny Gray continued to deal until the seventh inning, getting one out before getting taken out after throwing 90 pitches. Greg Weissert<\/a><\/strong> came in and immediately got the Red Sox faithful’s heart rates skyrocketing. Luckily, Sal Frelick would strike out looking to keep the shutout alive.<\/p>\n Story came through once again with an RBI single, and Caleb Durbin<\/a><\/strong> drove in Abreu on a fielder’s choice to make it 5\u20130 through seven innings.<\/p>\n Tyler Samaniego<\/a> <\/strong>made his major league debut in the eighth inning to this contest. He was called up as Justin Slaten<\/strong><\/a> landed to the injured list with an oblique strain. He got all three outs by strikeout to set up Ryan Watson<\/a><\/strong> in the ninth.<\/p>\n Gray was managing to miss barrels throughout the game, and kept his pitch count at a manageable number throughout.<\/p>\n The Red Sox struck out only six times this game. Comparing this to their 3\u20132 win over the Brewers on Tuesday, where they struck out 11 times, you definitely like seeing that out of Red Sox. They also forced eight walks, with Roman Anthony<\/a><\/strong> and Monasterio combining for five of them.<\/p>\n Weissert was so close to making this a competitive ball game. However, he did clutch up when it mattered the most. Honestly, not a lot went wrong for the Red Sox, as they only gave up four hits and three walks all game.<\/p>\n The Red Sox continue to play against teams they made trades with this past offseason. They travel to Busch Stadium to take on the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>, as the first matchup takes place on Friday at 8:15 pm Eastern.
