Amed Rosario<\/a><\/strong> smacked two homers, including an eighth-inning lead-flipper, to send the New York Yankees<\/a> to a 5\u20133 win over the visiting Athletics<\/a> Tuesday night. Giancarlo Stanton<\/a><\/strong> added an RBI single in the decisive bottom of the eighth, sealing the Athletics\u2019 fate.<\/p>\n Rosario opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with a towering one-out solo home run down the left-field line off Athletics starter Aaron Civale<\/a><\/strong>. A half-inning later, the Athletics took the lead off Yankees starter Cam Schlittler<\/strong><\/a>. It was thanks to a one-out, two-run Nick Kurtz<\/a><\/strong> double to the wall in right-center. Tyler Soderstrom<\/a><\/strong> extended the lead to 3\u20131 later in the inning on an RBI double down the right-field line.<\/p>\n The lead held until the bottom of the eighth. With nobody out and runners on the corners, former Yankee Mark Leiter Jr.<\/a><\/strong> yielded an RBI Giancarlo Stanton single. It was a strange play, however. The baseball was heading straight to shortstop Jacob Wilson<\/a><\/strong> for a sure line-drive out only to take a sharp right turn thanks to a 16-mph wind. It sailed past the diving Wilson\u2019s outstretched glove and into center field. Two batters later and with one out, Rosario belted a high fly to the second deck in left. It was barely inside the foul pole, giving Rosario a three-run clout and the Yankees a 5\u20133 lead. Yankees closer David Bednar<\/a><\/strong> pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to put the Athletics to bed.<\/p>\n Civale limited the Yankees to one run across five innings, striking out six and allowing only two hits. His lone mistake was Rosario\u2019s second\u2011inning homer.<\/p>\n Kurtz\u2019s two\u2011run double and Soderstrom\u2019s RBI double accounted for all three Athletics runs. Both came in the third inning, and both came with runners in scoring position. The two RBI for Kurtz were his first two of the young season.<\/p>\n Justin Sterner<\/a><\/strong> followed Civale with two effective innings, allowing two hits and inducing a key double play to maintain the Athletics\u2019 lead through the seventh.<\/p>\n Leiter Jr. entered with a 3\u20131 lead and recorded one out while giving up four runs. Three straight hits opened the inning, and Rosario\u2019s three\u2011run homer completed the turnaround.<\/p>\n After their four\u2011hit third inning, the Athletics managed two hits the rest of the night and struck out ten times. They finished 2\u2011for\u20116 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base.<\/p>\n Two errors \u2014 a catcher interference on Shea Langeliers<\/a><\/strong> and a fielding error by Andy Ibanez<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 extended innings and added pressure to a pitching staff that needed every margin.<\/p>\n Fernando Cruz<\/a><\/strong> earned the win for the Yankees as Leiter Jr. took the dreaded double-whammy: a blown-save loss. Bednar notched his fifth save of the season.<\/p>\n The Athletics (3\u20137) and Yankees (8\u20132) will play again Wednesday night.
