The Boston Red Sox<\/a> notched a 5-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> behind a phenomenal start from Ranger Suarez<\/strong><\/a>. He went eight innings while allowing two baserunners and striking out 10 Blue Jays hitters. Dylan Cease<\/strong><\/a> was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks in 5 2\/3 innings.<\/p>\n Cease had mowed through the Red Sox lineup just fine through the first three innings, striking out five while allowing one baserunner. The fourth inning finally saw the Red Sox break through. Marcelo Mayer<\/strong><\/a>, despite a batting average below the Mendoza Line in breaking balls, drove a hanging curveball up the middle for an RBI single.<\/p>\n Roman Anthony<\/a><\/strong> added to the lead in the fifth. Hitting a slow ground ball to the infield, the turf monster got Cease, who stumbled to the ground as Anthony reached first and Jarren Duran<\/a><\/strong> scampered home. Wilyer Abreu<\/strong><\/a> followed with an RBI double that hit off the glove of right fielder Jesus Sanchez<\/strong><\/a> to make it 3\u20130.<\/p>\n The Red Sox once again added to their lead. Despite being one strike away from the sixth inning ending, Caleb Durbin<\/strong><\/a> blooped a single to left-center field to end Cease’s night. As one last punch in the gut, Carlos Narvaez<\/strong><\/a> sent a souvenir to the seats in left in the eighth for his second home run on the year.<\/p>\n Suarez’ 10 strikeouts is the most in any of his six starts thus far in the season. He also fanned Vladimir Guerrero Jr.<\/a><\/strong> twice this game. Not only was he striking guys out, he was inducing the same weak contact he always goes for.<\/p>\n Story was the only one in the lineup to not reach base. He went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on his ledger.<\/p>\n Game Two of the series will be on Tuesday at 7:07 pm Eastern.
